I have never used Loctite to mount a scope in over 50 years. Always torqued to manufacturer's spec, and good to go. Never had a base or ring loosen in all those years.
Curious to note, however, that for the last few years Leupold has been supplying screws treated with thread locker, of some...
YouTube is chock full of videos on how to field dress, skin and process deer. Watch more than a few, since some show better camera work and better tutorials than others. Taken together as a whole, you should get a pretty good idea.
Good luck, and welcome to the club.
Yep, light strikes. There was a time frame when it was most prevalent. I dont recall the years offhand. They supplied free replacements for a short while, then stopped. The replacements are longer by about 5/8", and much stiffer.
I didn't have a problem with any of mine either, till I did.
I love my Kimber M84s, I truly do.
But it's seems they've created a nice little side gig selling replacement firing pin springs to replace what was, obviously, a design flaw. At $7.50 apiece, the price is not killer, but they should replace them for free. I replaced one on a Montana .257 Robts...
120 TTSX @ 3195 fps is the front runner, so far. Been using them on everything including a heavy bull elk a few years back. Lots of confidence in that bullet.
I have a box of 139 LRXs inbound to work with a bit till Oct.
My Montana doesn't like 140 TTSXs
Same here.
I'll be adding Alberta moose to my list, come October.
I also have a 260 Rem in a Ruger Ultra Lite tanger. Dandy little combo.
260AI sounds cool. Will you get enough extra juice to be worth the squeeze over the standard 260?
In all my experience, which is by no means extensive, the vegetation has been too high for a prone shot. My shots have either been sitting and shooting off my upright pack, or standing off of sticks.
Just an update
I'm about done with load development. The Hammer 132 HHTs didn't work out as I had hoped. My Montana wasn't thrilled with them.
So far I've got my load choice down to either a 120 TTSX @ 3195 fps or a 140 Accubond @ 2885. Both shoot under an inch......sometimes, well under. It's...
Gonna resurrect this old thread one more time.
I'm getting 3150 out of a 22" Montana, and just under 1" accuracy, with a 120TTSX over 47.5 CFE223. Still some wiggle to get to max, but I've been happy for years with the load, as is. I'll be taking it to Alberta in Oct., for a moose hunt...
I hunt antelope, deer and elk in Wyoming. In addition to scanning with my binos, I keep a TSN-554 in my pack for the times I need a better look at a buck/bull before putting in the time and boot leather on a long stalk. That scope might only get used a 1/2 hour all season. In that scenario, in...
@lifeisgoodsteve
$2,000 bucks sounds to me like a good price for a TSN-883/884, provided it has the TE-11WZll eyepiece. The age would be a bit of a concern to me. I was going to suggest you shop a bit longer, but I see that you made the deal. I think you'll be quite pleased with the scope, and...
