I personally think that hunters who use more technology than me are taking the sportsmanship out of hunting and should re-evaluate their ethics. Also people who use less technology than me are doing the animals a disservice by increasing chances of wounding them. They too should re-evaluate...
Open light is a 12# weight limit isn't it? Most PRS guns are 19# or more. That seems like a big weight difference to account for with only the chassis.
Yeah now that a little more info is out it almost seems like they're going for something similar to the AMG. Glass is supposedly about the same as the LHT line though so not sure on pricepoint.
ATACR 4-16 definitely seems head and shoulders above the rest of the ones you mentioned. I especially wouldn't get the Vortex LHT right now (even if you don't care as much about the droptesting) because Vortex will be announcing new crossover scopes on Thursday. Supposedly including a new...
I definitely see a lot of online talk of trigger/scope problems that's for sure. I don't see as many people talking about action problems anymore now that Impact (and to a smaller extent Lone Peak) dominate the scene. I think the early PRS years of R700 actions and especially Defiance Deviant...
Going to take a guess and say the top-200 ranked PRS shooters are less likely to leave a match due to rain compared to other PRS shooters. Not to mention certain areas being famous for moondust that people are always shooting in. To pretend that top PRS shooters who are going for points don't...
The last scope survey was in 2018 (new one coming out sometime in the next month or two I assume) but the company that was most represented was Nightforce back then. The second most was Kahles. I think Nightforce scopes work just fine.
What bearing does that have on gunsmith/action choice...
This is semi-relevant to custom hunting rifles but the list for this season's PRS came out for the gunsmiths used by the top 200 ranked PRS shooters. A lot of them make hunting customs too. Interestingly enough, Walls rifles come with a 0.3 MOA guarantee which is pretty confident. He actually...
I never quite understood this part. The magnum vs smaller cartridge as to how people handle recoil, that's subjective and can at least be debated because how people handle recoil is different. The bullet choice thing isn't as subjective and there's a definite answer as to what causes more...
I've only shot to 1300 yards but taking a rifle that's already got the elevation dialed perfectly, probably being told at least a starting wind call, then taking two shots to refine that wind call, and then connecting doesn't sound horribly difficult for non-casual shooters. I don't think that...
Is there a video for this? Kind of wondering size of target and whether it was his rifle / starting from cold bore. Or if it was a rifle that people were taking turns on and all he had to figure out was a wind call.
Maybe for that area it's a real thing, a sort of phenomenon that does crop up at small scale for certain pockets. But on a macro-scale, long range hunting doesn't seem to have changed anything for rifle harvest rates. People like to talk about it because they see it on social media and it's more...
Tikka CTRs shoot great from my limited experience. It'll be a year or two before I buy another rifle exclusively for hunting. I really hope in the meantime KRG comes out with the updated version of their Midas trigger. I just really like two stage triggers and the lack of options for Tikka has...
Not sure why we'd be humbled based on how badly other people shoot. My favorite is the guy with the 15" bipod, no rear rest, and no idea what to do with his support hand.
The original thing he was replying to was advocating for direct thread. To call that the best way possible is odd if we're referring to the same thing?
Again is this about thread adapters or mounting systems like a TBAC CB brake, Area419 Hellfire, etc?
For the long range hunting portion of that I'm not sure whether it matches with reality. There's a recent thread on success rates by weapon choice over the years for Idaho elk hunters. Rifle success is basically unchanged during the rifle technology revolution of the past decade. It seems like...
