For deer only or all types of game? I am pretty sure feral pigs and coyotes can be taken with night vision and thermals.
There is a breaking point where the rifle can have more scope than the shooter can use. There is no point in running a $2k NF scope on a rifle where you are only going to be...
This method worked for me loading my buck into my 4Runner earlier this month. I put a strap around the rack and then to the headrest of the driver seat. The basic setup was there and it worked really well. The next trip out I took the Tacoma; much easier loading but no 4x4.
No, you have to be careful how far forward you are blocking the light though. You want enough shade to get the glare off the objective lens and your eyes; but not so much shade so as to block the light path.
That said, I did find the honeycomb ARD was causing me just enough issues yesterday...
Yeah, they are easier to work with in cooler weather. My part of Texas can be a dry heat or a humid swamp depending on where the wind is coming from. I have caught myself flipping the eye shield forward when it is hot. I still get some light blocking and air flow.
I bought a set of these eye shields for that purpose. They work really well and I can keep my jacket on. Plus when I am handing the glass back and forth with someone else the shields go too.
I have Maven B1.2 binos in x10 . They are really effective even in low light situations; but there are times I really wish I had x12 but that is just being picky. I will be keeping the x10 binos and adding to the gear list.
Regarding low light hunting I setup my wife with a digital day/night scope this year. I have been impressed enough at the capabilities of a decent digital scope to take full advantage of the legal shooting times in Texas. Just another option for people with poor eye sight.
Great freaking timing. I was taking my honeycomb off the scope this morning because it was hurting me too much pre-sunrise light. Once the ARD was out I was able to see fine with the SHV 3-10 scope.
Ordered and looking forward to testing it out.
Freezer is going to be full now. The rest of my tags will be harvested and donated thru a program to the local food bank. My wife is doing the same; so probably donating 4 does and maybe a spike.
As for the hunt; this spike was harder than expected. I first saw him a few weeks ago when my wife...
My wife made a solid hit with this buck for her first whitetail. She missed a shot earlier on a large 8 point but she settled down and made it happen on this guy. He busted off his brow guards; so only 6 scoring points but she does not care. She is really happy with the classic Texas basket and...
First whitetail in over 20 years so I cannot complain. My 6.5CM did the work at 120 yds with Hornady ELD-X ammo to make up for a little high shot from me. Next weekend I should have my wife out in the woods with me for a hunt as well.
I am running three Tactacam and am moderately happy with them. They do not stand up well in the Texas summer heat. I have had to replace two due to failure to turn on in three years. The service is good enough but I may look at trading brands after this deer season.
I picked up this kit and have really liked it for hunting with. The battery goes into the pack and the pack QD mounts to the rail.

I have really been debating a 12" barrel for a 6.5 Grendel build. Load up some Barnes bullets and it could be a real slayer SBR rig. Guess I will put it on the Black Friday watch list.
Check out Otter Creek Labs Hydrogen-S for a 30 cal suppressor. They also have a dedicated 6.5 suppressor also that will be next on my list. I like the Hydrogen better than my Vox S for hunting use; but the Vox is full auto rated which is good for expensive range days.
Short range test of the...
Grabbed the wrong magazine of 6.5 Grendel ammo on this hunt. I had the 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tips instead of my preferred Hornady 123gr SSTs for feral pigs. My buddy shot one with his 308Win and I shot two with the 6.5 Grendel. The first one I shot died a bit on the other side of the fence and...
