All great answers so far with excellent recommendations.
I tried a few different UL routes but ended up preferring a super light 1p tent. The weight difference is minimal enough for me that I much preferred the better sleep I got from a bit more room.
I never slept great if the bivy (borah...
We had a pretty good thread for reference a few years ago. While this was sharing barrel length when suppressed (because suppressor adds so much length and can become unwieldy), many guys have shorter barrels.
I ended up having Kimber cut my 300wsm barrel down a few inches (don’t actually...
I have similar foot type and run mostly Scarpa’s with the Lowa Camino also fitting well for a less stiff boot.
While there are some Scarpas that are firmer than the Kailash and way less stiff than the Mtn Extreme, I just haven’t tried any with insulation from them.
Schnees for my feet ok, so...
Agree with others. My routine is:
Sawyer permethrin spray on long pants, shirts, shoes, cap, backpack
Look sexy by tucking pants into socks (chicks dig it by the way), so they can't crawl up the skin of my legs
Take off clothes right away when home and keep separate (have found a tick in...
That's exactly the style I lead to more, hiking from camp. My two mules are great with electric fence, but also have a buddy who packs in the Bob, uses electric all the time for his horse (leaving mules free most of the time), but has had the occasion when the smell of a grizzly spooked his...
If I was only looking for stock to use during hunting season I’d look seriously into llamas.
I happen to love the daily interaction, training and relationship building with horses and mules. So it’s mules for me.
As many have stated before, I also firmly believe that if considering mules or...
I can attest to this working as it’s literally exactly what I did one cold hunt in WY. Temps down to about 0 without a stove in the Supermid tipi.
40degree down (not synthetic) quilt over my about 15 degree bag (WM Alpinlite w overfill). Wore long John upper and lower base layers but no puffy...
That’s what has kept me from pulling the trigger in a lower temp quilt vs my 2lb WM Alpinlite 20 degree bag w/overfill to a few degrees lower.
I can still zip open to vent but later in the evening when the temps drop I often will zip up all the way. I appreciate being able to do this with the...
Hi All,
For my base camp/backcountry mule camp where weight is not as much of an issue, I'm going to pick up a comfortable mattress and wonder if anyone has tried both of these?
Everyone raves about the Megamat pad, and I really sleep well on my current 4" foam mattress when at a truck camp...
I just went through this.
If not going to tow 7500lbs or more than the 3.0 is awesome. Loved the way it drove too, though short test drives.
Be aware the 9-12k tow rating is very deceiving. Many guys have good experience towing 7500+ but officially it’s likely over both the payload and...
I was able to buy just the older body without the 20-60 eyepiece, so haven’t seen through that one.
I imagine he’s selling it separate in case someone is interested.
The scope arrived yesterday and looks awesome with the new eyepiece I got from S and S Archery. Wow, so nice to see so clearly...
I’d agree with you and some of the folks who are happy to backpack in but initially want mobility to locate the elk.
I’m investing in a WRTL light canvas tent in the hopes of maintaining a comfortable truck base camp or backcountry mule camp, but maintain ease of setup. The quickness of setup...
FYI - the 884 body came in today from the Seller in Japan. It arrived really fast and is in MINT condition as he described it. My mounting plates arrive tomorrow after which I'll be able to test it out, but as of now the condition looks amazing.
Honestly, I was a little nervous about buying...
Really? There are a couple times each season where I wish I had something stronger than even my 15x binos, to confirm if that log is really an elk. Usually when it’s only part of the “animal”.
I don’t plan to hike far with the 884 so ideally thought of the 554 for that purpose in the future...
eBay seller from Japan. 🤞that he’s legit but had hundreds of all good ratings so felt worth the risk.
DHL tracking says it arrived from Japan to Cincinnati and en route to me, so fingers crossed.
Pretty excited to use it for summer scouting adventures.
There are 774 bodies only for sale on eBay which they say are new. Shipping from Japan for something like $69.
The seller of the 884 agreed to sell it body only for $1500 with the fitted cover, so I pulled the trigger on that and will get a new eyepiece. Body/glass seems to have no defects...
I’ve had the Kodiak 10x14. Setup solo is pretty easy and made much easier if you use long HD lag screws as stakes. With a drill it speeds up that 16 stake process a lot.
We used a big buddy heater. Really liked quick heat as weren’t in tent much but did have the co2 sensor shut it off...
Hi All,
Does anyone know if there any reason NOT to get a 10 year old 883/4 if it’s a good price ($2k)?
How much of a difference are the 9, 10, 11 eyepieces other than the zoom changing from 20-60 to 25-65 when it went from TE10Z to 11?
How much value does a newer model offer if both in very...
