    Montana Late Season Cow Elk

I’m assuming you have access to a bunch of private? With the fresh snow they should be easy to spot from a long ways away or like stated tracking snow will be your friend.

    Who is dropping their standards?

I’ll fully acknowledge that plenty of residents road hunt and piss pound does and muleys. I’ll also acknowledge that after reading every response in this thread I could guess whether or not you live in a state that actually has mule deer with 90% accuracy on my guess. Well it was legal….blame...

Everyone is worried about internet forums…but what about them magazines?

Absolutely happened to my archery elk spot this year. I bought some stuff from camofire and when I opened the box they had thrown in a free copy of a western hunting magazine. 8 page article on my general unit. I counted license plates from 9 different states in the three days I was up there. I...

    Bozeman Rental 1Hour Radius

As a resident of Livingston….I believe he will regret this move. Hopefully he doesn’t have to be on time to work.

    Inreach update ?

I’m pretty close to throwing my in reach in the toilet. I’m no where near tech savvy enough for that headache. I’m not totally illiterate but I feel like you really have to be into tech to be proficient with it. My wife who is a lot more savvy than me and has several of there watches really...

Anchoring shots/aiming for heavy bone with monolithic bullets

I’m guessing most of the responses that are against the shoulder shot are from people that haven’t been around very many elk kills. Know your rifle and bullet limitations. Know your anatomy. Know how to shoot. YouTube logic aside, a lot of experienced elk hunters preferred shot is the shoulder.

    Montana general archery license question

If your still worried about it and want the piece of mind just stop by any license vendor when you get here and they can print you a copy of your license. It will show all items you hold. Pretty much any sporting goods store is a license vendor you won’t have to track down a fwp office.

    Montana general archery license question

Have you looked on your general license. Should be listed there. Even if not, says in the regs that you can use your phone for proof of license in the field. (This doesn’t mean your tag). Take a screenshot of “items held” and your good to go.

    Pressure in a new tikka

Nope. Can’t remember what my coal is off the top of my head but I seated just deep enough to fit in the magazine.

    Pressure in a new tikka

Does seem strange. Maybe you just got a tight chamber . As others have said, I would give a very good scrubbing to your bore and hope things improve. I’m shooting pretty much the exact same load in the same rifle. Only difference is Winchester brass. Off the top of my head I believe I’m 68 and...

    Tyvek Suit for Goats?

They don’t breath at all. Gets awfully steamy inside real quick. I’ve never hunted in one but have to put one on sometimes at work and it’s not fun in any kind of warm weather.

    Tikka Shroud...MT vs Beretta

Don’t know about comparing the two but my MT shroud is nice. Perfect fitting and easy to install.

    26 nosler

I would also favor the 129. Always better to be plenty stabilized than marginally stabilized. Terminal performance on game is where it really makes a difference. I really wanted to shoot hammer 131s in my 26. Recommend twist by hammer is 1.7.5 . Mine is a 8 twist. I thought the whole speed and...

    Muzzle breaks

Always wonder why I never hear Gentry brakes mentioned. I have shot three rifles with them and thought they were pretty good. Even the 338 rum was not bad for the dozen or so rounds I sent. They call it the Gentry Quiet Brake. I know that seems like an oxymoron but it really was the quietest...

    Old Remington 9 1/2 primers?

So I have about 1000 Remington 9 1/2 primers. Dad bought them sometime in the 90s. When I got my first magnum rifle I was using them for load development and was not liking my es. I switched to cci and had better results. Since then the Remingtons have just been collecting dust. They have...

    Tikka 300WM Load Suggestions

I would look hard at switching to a mono bullet like the Barnes 168 ttsx or 178 lrx. I know a lot of guys swear they shoot 200 Accubond and eldx accurately in their tikkas and I’m not doubting that they do. A marginally stabilized bullet can still shoot accurately but it’s the terminal effect on...

What's The Oldest Rifle You Hunt With?

Mauser 1893 7x57. Dad bought it brand new out of the crate in about 1960 for 20$. Sometime around 90 when I was 12 I helped him semi sporterize it. Original stock but cut down quite a bit and refinished. Had the bolt turned to accommodate a scope. Still wears the original 29” barrel with front...
