So, how light can a Kimber Hunter be? A build thread.

Yes, but with a qualifier. That is where I was planning to get the "cores" to make the screws from. I have a copy of their print (Post #493 this thread) and the heads are too big (which is good because material can be removed) and flat not oval head. The flat isn't a problem if you don't mind...

I have a 3d scan of the Hunter grip cap. It's not perfect but might be printable. @mtwarden did you ever try printing that?

I'll have multiple sets of those when I swap these rifles out of their stocks but they might need to stay with the stocks... or I guess I could run the TI Screws. Might need to bring in a few shorter ones I guess... What does Kimber want for those if they would sell them?

I will bring in a few extra sets of screws so I have those if someone wants them unless there is more demand than a few. They will not be cheap, starting at ~$10 for each screw blank then have to be machined to match the Kimber both length and head (will start as a fat flat head). The titanium...

Titanium is ~60% the weight of steel. The rear screw will be quite a bit less as that shank is fat so -40% of the front and -all of the fat shank and then 40% of what is left after that on the rear for a Hunter. Wood/Montana/Ascent ~-40%. I am getting ready to order the blanks for the screws...

I have titanium action screws in the works if anyone is interested. They won't be the goofy long extended head though so on the Hunter they would be up inside the stock a bit on the rear screw. Also a T25 Torx head.

@Wrangler13 Nice! Kampfeld has done the cuts for the ejector clearance. Still smooth over a full mag? Do you feel those flutes at all?

Keep in mind that the weakest point in a barrel is ~6" forward of the chamber where the pressure peaks as the bullet hits that point (a little before that on fast powders and a little after on slow). The wall thickness vs pressure is most critical at that point so those flutes are compromising...

Thanks for posting that pic. I wonder if that's just because of the hassle of setting it up or if there is some other reason? I may have to call in and see. Maybe they would reconsider if there were a dozen or more to do. I may have to set up my mill to do it if we can't get someone else on board.

Another thought, LRI has done group buys on their bolt fluting in the past. Would we have enough interest here to pull something like that off? I have at least half a dozen I could send in if need be. I also have a short and a long 8400. I suspect they will be much more willing to write a...

Any chance you can get a photo of the track the ejector takes? Like these here. You can see where it is riding and rotating out on the Kimber on the left.

It should, I believe they are the same? Here are two 84m bolts, one with the longer extractor and the Coup de grâce showing the backside where the ejector rides. Notice how the track is cut out on the Coup de grâce. My thoughts are if they flute to just before the rear of the extractor and then...

I'd like to flute my bolt with the "wrought iron" pattern similar to what @ChrisAU has on his barrel. Has anyone gotten theirs done by Kampfeld or LRI? For what LRI is showing costwise I don't know that it is worth me trying to fixture it here to get it done on my machine. I have an idea of how...

FWIW a spitting revolver has something wrong with it. Cylinder timing, excessive Cylinder to barrel clearance and forcing cone are possible fixes. A properly fitted and operating revolver should have no spitting and very minimal side blast cylinder to barrel.

MagView magnetic iphone cases that don’t require MagView magnet plate

Any follow-ups on this? I cut the plate as shown here carefully after downloading a teardown video on the S22 to allow it to Qi charge. I took a screenshot, printed it in actual size, and then cut the plate to just clear the charging ring. It has worked fine. I just ordered the S24+ and am...

👍🏼Yes first pic. With those flutes the cycling of a completely empty rifle you should be able to feel the ejector following the bolt - not as smooth as an unfluted or even the one that you just had done. With rounds in the magazine it should be worse. Has that been your experience?

I'm sure both are fluted with extractor off. They're easy to strip down as @dieselchessy said. And I agree metal removal will need to be VERY carefully considered/decided. I personally won't trim or flute the barrel. I have a Bartlein that is going to be a little heavier than the original. It...

I don't know if LRI will do the Kimber bolts. I brought up asking them back in post #112 then guys started sending stuff to Kampfeld. I reference LRI as they go over the obstacles doing the CRF/Mauser claw & mechanical ejector bolts and potential solutions. I have a Pre-64 Model 70 bolt here...

That's interesting how he addressed the ejector. I like the Wrought Iron like @ChrisAU had done to his barrel. The bottom of that looks like it was a mistake on some of those cuts. I wonder if he does all the CRF like that with the slot? The others I have seen stop and leave that track...

PM me your email and I'll send it to him over there. I might have an email attached to the payment I sent him. I'll have to check. I wouldn't mind grabbing another couple handles anyway.
