Any actual studies (or opinions)? I'm a bit torn between these two schools of thought....
On the one hand, hunters are killing the bucks with the largest antlers. Example would be an average hunter comes across a couple of 3-year old bucks, one having a 3-point frame and the other having a...
Africa is by far the best value in hunting right now, especially if you don't bring back taxidermy.
When I was younger I had no desire to go. But once you go, you'll be figuring ways to get back. Just do your research to make sure the properties are good sized for South Africa. As long as the...
I'd wait for rising interest rates/recession/housing bubble collapse. Current prices are super inflated in my opinion. I've lived in both states (currently in MT) - I'd take WY any day over MT, especially for hunting quality
By FWP's own crappy statistics... Over 60% of mule deer bucks are harvested every year statewide. The percentage of public land bucks is probably around 80-90%. Other western states typically harvest 25-40% in their average units. If it were not for the private sanctuaries, there would be...
I stopped applying for the terrible odds/high out of pocket states. Use the money towards Africa every few years. Way more value in my opinion.
You also have to really decide what you like to hunt vs. what is hard to draw. Human nature is to covet what we think we can't have. After many years of...
In agreement. Used to apply for most states and species, but have dropped out of most. Declining trophy potential/Odds, competing against gang hunting when you do draw, and rising prices.
Went to Africa in 2019, that's where I'll be taking the money I save on applications every few years - much...
Your overconfident and have may have not learned a valuable lesson. Your not 80% on a coffee can at 800 yards, unknown wind, etc. Hell, there’s up to 4” of play on a .5 MOA rifle at that range. Being wrong on the wind by 1 mph can move a bullet 2-4 inches at 800. I’ve shot with some very good...
How many “long range” shooters would take a $1000 bet they can hit a milk jug (coffee can at this angle) at 800 yards, first shot, cold barrel, wind inbetween unknown, new elevation, rifle/scope being hauled around the mountains for days, in field rest conditions? Odds of hitting it are way less...
I don’t see the need for these, as I’ve always been able to control the temp with the dampers on the front. My home wood stove does not have one; and the fire goes out on my titanium stove if I close both dampers. Am I missing something?

I’m not much for ice fishing; some of these look like they’d make a good mobile truck camp. Easy to set up, insulated, tall enough to stand up... Any input?

Yes, MT does not have the clearest regs or draw system....
After narrowing it down, I would definitely recommend cross checking the regs after looking at that map. Some units are general for spike only, archery, cows in some, ECT. People get in trouble every year for this. I also can see some...
Pretty moderate winter in MY this past year; though the 2 before that were tough. So there will be a lot of forked horns hitting the ground in Nov.... Eastern MT is a fun place to hunt, but way too much pressure during the rut for bucks to get any age.
I'm not super familiar with Alaska regs, but I believe the Chugach is limited draw with steep odds of drawing. And the brooks range is able to be hunted over the counter.
Went on my first trip last year - it is such a blast, already scheduled to go back in 2021.
Good advice above, also:
Don't get hung up on the fences, it's all pretty much high fence in SA. The properties I hunted were large enough where I didn't feel it was an issue. It will feel "artificially"...
