Hi I am thinking of getting a 28 youth deer tag for my 10 year old son and was wondering what you thought of the unit? I have hunted other units in central idaho just not that area. Happy to pay back the area in any spot I hunted you are interested in. cheers george- OSU

Choosing a unit/ area for the long term
Pick a unit that you like to spend time in for whatever reason and that you can hunt at least every couple years. Spend a lot of time there and learn what the elk do. They use the same areas year after year. I agree with others. Knowing an area is better than any stats. -

How much water do you carry in your pack ?
This is what I do as well. Plus I bring a steripen. I try and tank up before I go in. I like to have a bit extra in case someone else needs it. Now when I bring my young boys I bring about a gallon of apple juice. I can drag them anywhere happily as long as we have apple juice for breaks...
