Attached are stats from two different seating depth options after first round of charge development. The black shot really good in charge development and is seated at factory. The blue is longer and most consistent velocity/es/sd from the seating depth testing.
Should I just stick with the...
I went ahead and purchased the Copper Creek load pack to give it another chance and see how this went. I will post all the other results later, but the black load, which is the highest load, was the most accurate and fastest out of my 280ai.
Not sure why there was a flier, but these calcs are...
Please let me know how it comes out and what loads you tried. I did order the load development pack #1 from copper and some Federal 155gr terminal attack…will try to get and do some testing this week.
I will just leave my experience with 280ai here versus Hornady Factory Precision Hunter. Check out the speed and SD difference. The Copper groups were also 2+ times larger.
Interestingly…I bought three different loads from Copper Creek for this gun. I followed 100% the exact same procedure for all three loads (160 CX, 168 VLD, 162 ELD-X) and they were all 175 to 200 fps slower then Hornady Precision Hunter with 162 ELD-X.
Here are the strings from today...
Finally got the rifle finished and sighted it in tonight. I am trying some different loads from Copper Creek eventually, but starting with Hornady ELD-X 162gr. Box says 2850 fps. First 20 rounds in the new barrel were all 2890 - 2922. The gun also in shooting sub half-MOA within this first...
First...congrats on doing your hunt. Best of luck to you when you go. Don't see many other of posters from Basalt! Luckily, we have plenty of close terrain to get you ready for the hunt.
I am in way saying the 7PRC isn't a good cartridge, but it is pretty obvious that Hornady was blowing a little smoke....likely from burning the grass that grows in between the Nebraska corn stalks.
And while I do not have one, and ammo availability is not great....the 6.8 Western seems to be...
Hello,
I have a brand new set of M5 Oberndorf bottom metal for a long action, in black and a Wyatt MBE-2 Kit.
Neither of these have been in a fired rifle, nor have they been assembled/torqued. I did some test fitting and in talking with my action manufacturer, they are suggesting I go to a...
I also the Oberndorf M5 route with MBE-2 in Manners Pro Hunter and Terminus action. I can get it to feed except for the last round. This is 280AI....kind of frustrated, but just gotta keep at it I guess. Round gets halfway in and the bolt slips over the rear.
Feels like I need a narrower...
Thin barrels and small scopes definitely appear to be the way to save weight. Pretty tough to put a light weight rifle together that you can take to the range and shoot without melting the barrel.
Looks like after assembling everything, I was a bit off. I am at 9.05 lbs without my level.
I would certainly put together a lighter gun if I draw my goat or sheep tag. I think this one will be good for most elk hunts and in the sage brush.
I pour my pts into archery tags for elk, so if I...
I went with the flat waxed. It came in the mail today, fast turn around time. I am going to use it as a rear bag for my tripod and carry it on hunts. We shall see...looks good.
