    Whats your name boy?

I spent many years chasing the peaks. I have climbed all of of Colorado's 14'ers along with several along the west coast and McKinley up in Alaska. McKinley was the only time above 20,000'.

    Colorado leftover lists 2020

Did anyone happen to save a copy of the secondary draw and leftover lists from Colorado 2020? I normally save a copy of the list but seem to have missed this one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Search and Rescue: Why don't you step up?

I spent several years in SAR service. As a rock climber and an emt, my skills were well placed. I started with ski patrol back in 1988. The local sheriff talked a few of us into helping out. Some of the most rewarding and some of the most heart breaking moments of my life happened on those...

It would take me a week just to get through the leg. Looks like quite the butchering job.

Spring/Deep Creek Fire- Green Mountain Reservoir, CO

Looks like they are throwing every resource in the county at it. Hopefully it will be 100% contained in a day or two. I would expect the road closures to continue for several days though for clean up and observation.

    Colorado Fire Ban

Colorado has a statewide fire ban, currently in effect until Oct 7th. Not sure how the federal resources play against that, but I believe it follows the most restrictive law. In other words, if any agency has a ban then the ban has to be followed. Colorado has a ban so it should be in place on...

    Max Hunters Per Truck?

I would be concerned of the amount going back. What if all 4 are successful? 4 elk, even boned out, take up a lot of room.

Pine Gluch Fire in CO and my upcoming hunt

That depends on a number of factors, including the type of terrain and vegetation, prevailing winds, weather patterns, etc. 20 Miles sounds like a long way but if a fire changes directions it can cut off access to roads. That may trap you in a spot where the resources needed to fight the fire...

Colorado Parks and Wildlife still fails at leftovers

I arrived at a small tackle shop early on Tuesday. Stood around and talked to a couple of other hunters for an hour or so. At 9:00 the gal who runs the shop punched a bunch of keys on her machine and I saw the tag I wanted print out. Works well every year for me.

Cats in your honey hole CO

In most areas of western Colorado, if you have walked a mile you have been seen by a mountain lion. That does not mean you will see them, or even sign, but they are there. I have seen many in my hikes and caught more than a few on trail cameras. Not sure how much it changes the behavior of deer...

Looking for backcountry alpine lake fishing near Denver.

Take a look at the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. There are a number of lakes up there that can be looped together. Lost lake (a mile or two in from the Hessie trailhead on Fourth of July Road) is a shallow lake with great brookie fishing. I have had the lake to myself on many occasions. For...

    Truck maintenance before hunting trips

I do nothing special prior to hunting season. Everything that has been mentioned is part of what they call basic maintenance. I do that year round. I have enough to do to get ready for hunting season. I do not need to worry about my rig.

Threw my hat in the ring....

You will know in June if you drew a tag. The credit card you have on file should be charged within a day of the drawing, much like other states. Won't tell you which choice you drew, only that you have a tag coming.
