It's crazy to think that MR is referred to as it's some sub-par product. I remember when they were considered among the best. I imagine it's because they import a lot of packs now, but I've only tried MR and Kifaru and I'd still prefer MR, less expensive or not.
I like the more tasteful, utilitarian Busse Kin knives, such as the new Scrapper WS1020 I just ordered. Very nice for processing animals! Some of their knives are way over the top for my taste and look like weapons or whatever. Other than that I enjoy a collection of Benchmades and Kershaws...
I've had so many Benchmade knives that just about every bad thing that can happen to a knife, has happened to a few, including loose screws. Never lost a screw though. Lost a coupe of knives though and broke a few too. Benchmades are still some of my favorites.
I made small gains in strength, without a doubt. Took a few months to notice this where it's easily noticed like bench press. I'm also doing well over 20 pull-ups where before the diet I could only manage 20 on a really good day. That could be due to weighing slightly less. I can't tell that...
SPEC-OPS BRAND.
Extremely well made, fully USA made and sourced. There stuff has been in the sandbox since 2003, in most cases they survive several deployments and then get carried every day afterward.
I work internationally and it's a very mixed pot of guys from all over the world including "yankees", rednecks and a handful of guys from the UK (among many others). In general I find Americans to be very welcoming and inclusive. We tease about our differences and as long as people don't get...
I've spent some time in Tennessee and I've told my wife it is definitely the friendliest state. Seems like no matter where you go, gas station to the sandwich shops, people will strike up conversation with you. It's nice. I don't mind people that mind their own business either, so long as...
Moving to a different part of the country is an exciting adventure. I was born and raised in South Texas. I was fortunate enough to grow up on a large property where hunting, shooting and fishing was just an everyday thing. it wasn't something that I ever had to plan for. I was also close to...
I've got a Smithey too, and the quality is excellent. I paid $100 or something like that for it though and have found that it's more difficult to get a good season started in the bottom of the polished skillet. I've got an old faithful Lodge that I've had forever, with the rough finish. The...
I think fat adaptation and time is key. Most people are so metabolically deficient that often times blood sugar drops but insulin will not ebb enough for the enzymes in fat cells to break down the triglycerides and release fat, leaving your body with no fuel. At that point your body sends out...
There's a good book called THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO FASTING by Dr. Fung. I think it's good to know the "why" when it comes to these things, so that we can forget about outdated, silly notions of calories and applying simple thermodynamics to the human body, and get started applying the real...
What is the modern science behind "calories"/thermodynamics, specifically how they are applied to the human(or any species) metabolism? .....vs modern science involving fat metabolism?
If I had complete control of my diet I would do it. Because I travel for a living and often the choices of meat are limited where I work I am unable to maintain it. I've gone for periods of close to a month carnivore and it was wonderful. I actually enjoy vegetables but I don't feel they are...
Keep it up if it is making you feel good and your workouts are improving. I'm going on about a year and for the first 6 months or so I was hard core. I saw both strength and endurance improve. I've since done some cheating and carb cycling, but only because I enjoy eating certain things...
At least we are pretty good nowadays with hearing protection. We learned the hard way. I have on the left side of my head, what resembles an ear, but it's basically just there for looks.
But Ansel Keyes sorted all of this out. You need to replace saturated fat with carbohydrate. He did a very high profile study that lasted over the course of almost 3 decades with very definitive results. Besides that, 1000 years ago natural carbohydrates like leafy greens and bananas were...
I've had some time to really think about this stuff and some new thoughts have come to mind. I can acknowledge that in the end, when all the research is "through", the end result may be that the carb fueled athlete can come out ahead, or yet, people on average might reach their "optimal"...
I never gave that much thought. My kids are behind a gun quite often, so I'll take that into consideration. I grew up on guns that scared me until I was about 16 and started enjoying it. My dad(dads) always had my wormy self shooting big ass guns. Maybe that's what's wrong with me. LOL
I started my youngsters on 22's and a single shot .410, shooting clays. They are ate up! My 12 year old will shoot anything you put in his hands. He was shooting a 12 guage and a 45-70 when he was 10, and he's always been small for his age.
I'll chime in with something that might help somebody down the line. I have always done weight training, running, biking, like a lot of people, and I learned the hard way about the importance of training your gluteus medius. Just doing heavy squats, leg press, biking, etc, all in a straight...
