We have a MIL R version. To ME it's great glass with zero issues in low light. They are better than our NX8 by a little. For reference we have a few TT315m and a ZCO 420. It hangs with them just fine. I can't think of something better, so if you find it let me know :)
The bright side of reading this for me is that your 500 dollar Tikka worked perfectly. I have piles of custom rifles too. It's funny though, my first Tikka in 30-06 shoots as good for a hunting rifle as any of them. I always tell my friends getting into hunting to grab a Tikka. Not sexy with...
I hunted Unit *** this year. Very difficult with the heat. Basically get from 6:05am to 6:20am and that's it. I was successful on a large buck after spending many days taking an ATV up that nasty road to table. It's slim pickens with the heat this season.
The one that Outdoorsmans sells is super nice. I've been using it 10 years. It doubles as padding to protect optics in the pack when strapping to an atv. It's saved my ass a few times :)
I have a ZCO 4-20. Great Scope. Also an ATACR 4-16. The ZCO has a noticeably better view. The ZCO is on my 300 WIN and will stay there likely. I'm always at 10 pounds. I need my stuff to take some abuse. I don't intentionally do it but I go hard with stuff. Also, I like a 10 pound rifle...
I will get some of my pics up. I have a 7Saum, 26 inch Proof Sendero, Manners Stock, Jewel Trigger, APA muzzle brake. Bullet is a 180Gr Berger HVLD over 3000 FPS. Scope is a Tangent Theta TT315M in American Rifle Company Rings. It's a serious backcountry rig for me. Personally it ends at...
The trick is they almost have to touch the lands, as in minimal jump, not actually. If not, they don't shoot. Once you get the seating depth right they bug hole. Assuming you have looked at twist rate and all the basics already.
I shoot a Berger 180 HVLD out of my 7 Saum. I get 3015 FPS out of a 26 inch barrel. Generally I prefer a Barnes bullet or something that penetrates when hitting dense bone. But I will say if you hunt long distances (Like past 650 yards) and in mountain wind, the 180 Berger HVLD performs quite...
I have a Sako 85 Carbonlight short action 6.5. With Optiliocks (the ones with bases) not the ringmounts I can't get the scope back far enough. I have an NXS 2.5-10x42. Just replaced it with a Tangent Theta TT 315m.
I had the front base flush with the Ejection port. Ringmounts may buy you...
Me too. Have a sweet 7Saum rifle sitting here with no ammo. Back to my old Tikka which I have a few boxes of '06 left. Just ordered a hunting rifle today in 6.5 creedmoor because I was on optics planet and somehow got 12 boxes of Berger 135 gr classic hunters. I thought it was a mistake but...
I would do the Sportsmatch over the Hawkins too based on the recoil pin and the fact that they use the integrated tikka rail. I like Hawkins and have a pair of Pinned hybrids on a 700 clone. But for a tikka I can't see not using the built in rail and lug unless you were using a pic rail to...
I just put a spuhr mount on my Tikka. It's stupid expensive but wow is it nice. Has a recoil lug and mounts straight to the Tikka integrated rail with clamps. I'm sure the other rings do the same job for a fraction of the price but it's worth taking a look. Using the integrated rail and...
So this looks better than then XLR? I was about to order one of those but this now really has my interest. I hate having my fingers numb from the cold and holding a piece of alum or magnesium in freezing weather is holding me back.
My 6.5 weighs 11 pounds with a TT315m scope. My 7 Saum weighs 10 pounds with a TT315m scope and Proof Sendero CF barrel. I have a lightweight Tikka but I prefer a little more weight so haven't shot it in a long time. My backpacking days are over though so I'm day hiking or shooting off a UTV...
I've done a few load packs with him. Developed a load for my 6.5. Basically you start with a standard seating depth and different load charges. Then on the second pack (if needed) you extend the seating depth out using the most accurate charge weight from the first pack. I have a pretty...
