I’m in the process of turning my Savage 270WSM into a 6.5PRC, really just due to ammo. Mine shot Nosler Trophy Grade 140 Accubonds very very accurately, but that stuff is 90 to 100bucks per box! I’ve enjoyed it, I’ve shot several elk without issues or anything.

I made 2 marginal shots in the heat of the moment, and was shocked at the trauma the broadhead caused, thats all. I'm not saying or making any claims about one head being better than another or anything, it was just an interesting wound and circumstance.
I love archery in all forms...
Prime Black 5, 70lbs. at 29.5" draw. Arrows are Black Eagle Spartan 300, with stainless steel inserts and 50gr brass, plus 125gr head. Total arrow weight just a touch over 500 grains.
I’ve shot several doe antelope and whitetail with neck shots. I like it about the best for does, especially in antelope, there’s just so little meat there anyways. If you hit the neck at all she is DRT, expansion of the bullet is going to shut down the central nervous system . In my experience...
For me, it was getting my son into hunting, building his first couple of big game rifles, and seeing how effective they were with less recoil. I started with building him a 6.8SPC AR-15 and seeing how effective that little round was on deer. Then it was a 6.5 Creedmoor for his first elk...
I went with a 20” barrel from a Bartlein blank from Compass Lake, I wanted to maximize velocity for potential long range stuff. I really like 6ARC, my build will put 5 shots into one ragged hole at 100yds. I went with the Aero upper and lower, a hand guard from Sergeant of Arms that’s got built...
I hunt solo 99% of the time, and I travel pretty long distances to areas to hunt. For me, and the way I hunt, my 4Runner is about perfect. It’s reliable, very competent off road, I can sleep in the back at a trail head or on shorter weekend or 3 day hunts.
I think the only thing that ever...
I didn’t take pictures of this because honestly it was a little gross LOL. I’ve killed a bunch of animals with Sevr’s and really like them, but I have never seen something like this!
Last night I was set up in a makeshift little ground setup on a little coulee that feeds up to a winter wheat...
Not to argue, and whatever works for you, but when I was in the Army, my first duty station was Fort Drum, NY. I was in a light infantry unit, and we did a lot cold weather training and field time. I was taught as part of the cold weather training to get in your sleeping back in only your...
I have an older K2 3500, just packed out my Colorado moose a few weeks ago. I’ve packed out 4 elk, a bunch of mule deer and antelope, a bunch of whitetails, and a moose! I have carried tree stands, blinds, heavy camp gear for the family and kids and used it on many many backpacking trips...
I have been doing barefoot and minimalist footwear now for over a decade. I know its not for everyone, but it works for me. I hunted elk this year in Vivo Trackers but ended up switching over to my waterproof Altra Lone Peaks for my moose hunt and wore them on the pack out with no issues...
I really like the Kuiu lightweight merino but Ive found it to be terribly delicate. Especially the older stuff I got that has the perforations on the side for ventilation. I think thats 120g weight. But man, if you look at those things long enough your stare will put a hole in them LOL. I have...
I've got my eye out for one of these in 6.5PRC. I was just about to upgrade my current 6.5CM Savage LWH to a new carbon barrel and aftermarket stock, but instead Im going to get one of these and sell my 6.5CM. I figure a 20" PRC is going to still push 26" barrel Creedmoor speeds, but in a...
So far, I have had a chance to use this on a handful of scouting trips this summer, archery elk, and my moose hunt. I like the flexibility of being able to use just the fly, or both the fly and inner tent. I have had some condensation issues, but feel they can be mitigated by not cinching it...
