Why are people cutting barrels off

So with the guesstimate of weight loss added in it looks like recoil reduced very minimally. Probably imperceptibly to the shooter. But muzzle blast would increase significantly, likely increasing the perception of recoil. Notice that in your linked article the author describes muzzle blast and...

Why are people cutting barrels off

I always just ask the folks at what distance do they think a standard 30-30 load is good for elk. I get answers anywhere from 100 to 200+ yards. But most everyone will agree a 30-30 150 or 170 grain is good for elk to at least 100 yards. So then anything with comparable or greater energy or...

Why are people cutting barrels off

How much barrel you figure on cutting off to lose 200fps velocity? And how did you remove that much barrel and still have the rifle weigh the same? I’m thinking rifle weight wouldn’t be a constant when loping off chunks of steel from a rifle.

    Bergara .308 accuracy

Not sure there is enough info to discuss. What ammo did you try? What bullet weights? What were the groups like? Any patterns of performance observed? Cup and core or solids? The 2 federal loads you listed are heavier, longer bullets, at moderate velocities. Also boat tail bullets with...

Why are people cutting barrels off

In general I don’t like short barrels, muzzle blast, loudeners, ect. For me 22” to 24” seems about ideal. But I have a few barrels I cut down to 18-20” for suppressor use and some AR barrels that are 16-18”. I cut barrels down below 22” for suppressor use so the finished length is in or very...

Why are people cutting barrels off

    Maybe try a half/partial step down to a 300 WSM or 300 PRC, maybe even a 30-06. I shot a RUM a few times. I didn’t enjoy it.

    2006 Toyota 4Runner electrical problems?

That’s good to hear. A wire harness chewed by mice could easily be more painful.

    2006 Toyota 4Runner electrical problems?

Many auto parts stores can bench test an alternator and batteries. You should start there before spending money on parts.

    2006 Toyota 4Runner electrical problems?

Your tester looks to indicate the alternator isn't charging. Maybe corroded ground? Shouldn’t be much between the alternator and the battery to check out. Have you checked all the fuses? ALT fuse? You could have it scanned for trouble codes, but that probably won’t pinpoint an electrical issue.

    Why WY?

For me it’s the perceived value of the investment. Wyoming preference points and the time it takes to gather them have an easily quantifiable value. You can see what they are worth somewhat easily even with points creep. But when Wyoming makes a change that value can be very negatively...

    Tacoma value these days?

Looks like it might have a fair bit of rust judging from the front end. Guessing they salt the roads where that truck lives. Hard to say, but rust free it would probably be 8-10k around SW Washington.

House design, what is the purpose of this design?

Looks like the common pick a floor plan and make a few changes type house with poorly integrated vaulted ceilings. We see them all the time around here from the spec home builders. We call those areas “dust collectors”. Looks like they finished just enough to meet fire code. Some folks put fake...

    LEM Chamber sealer issues. Thoughts?

The pumps aren’t anything special, just a Chinese vacuum pump. When I bought mine I opened it up to add the oil. As I recall looking at the pump it wasn’t any trouble finding very similar pumps on Amazon for maybe $70 or so. Shouldn’t be any issue to buy a higher cfm pump.

    Costal fireams

That shop popped up the other day when looking for primers. They looked to have about every flavor in stock. I read the bio at the bottom of the page about being a small local gun shop since forever. I looked elsewhere.

Do anyone have lock time numbers on any rifles?

It’s an exaggerated example but if you want to see the effect of lock time try shooting a flint lock.

    6.5 Grendal???

I have a few 6.5 Grendel’s, but have never killed a hog. I wouldn’t have any issue using one though. They are fun little pop guns. Coyotes don’t like them any. They are slow-ish so seem to do well with the softer bullets.

Why does the resolution on my Onx suck?

Do you have the “recent imagery” feature turned on? That often has much less resolution. Also, if downloading and using offline you need to download high res, when you actually have good internet and high res displaying.

    Suppressor Opinion: Meh, It’s Ok

If you cut a 24” barrel down to 18” or 19” and then thread on a 5.5” or 6.6” suppressor that’s 7oz. or 8oz. how much weight and length did you add to the rifle?

11/21/2022 and still waiting. Guess they have to keep the average up somehow.
