It's a fact you don't need a 1000 yd gun to hunt anything in Colorado or anywhere else.
Unless there's some place where there's no opportunity to engage at less than a thousand yards. It's a choice to shoot at a thousand yards, which is not opinion.
OP indicated he's looking to shoot at a thousand yards, I'm not sure where the hunting is in that? You don't need a thousand yard gun to hunt anything in colorado, unless you want to shoot and not hunt. Not fun to hear but truth.
Butler Creek for me for 20 years or more as well. Never an issue. In what situations do they break for those that have had bad experiences? I've only heard they are cheap and break, but not how they broke. Agree they can let a bit of moisture in, however that's in the extreme in my experience...
In disclosure, the longest shot I've had with a mono is around 375 yards. However the longest shot with lead is not even that far for the sake of discussion.
TTSX in every rifle that goes big game hunting. From pronghorn to elk. Been using Barnes since 1994 and have taken one animal with lead in that time. Then went to Barnes in that rifle as well.
It's been mentioned in the thread early on and I agree. I suspect they're trying to eliminate folks deciding at the last minute to hunt archery. Make folks plan in advance and the numbers will go down. I don't think anyone who applies is going to be denied a tag in one of the previous OTC...
Maybe it's been said before, 260 Remington should have been a good one too. This generation and time, people follow the marketing and the hype, don't stick with things for long if it's not right in front of their noses everywhere they look on the internet.
Your best opportunity is going to be paying money and going on a guided hunt. Otherwise I think you are going to be disappointed from what I'm seeing in your posts with respect to the quality of animals you are looking for. Stay in Southwest Pennsylvania and find a landowner that has some big...
I've got a couple of $9 inflatable pillows off Amazon. Maybe 3 oz a piece. Inflate to desired firmness and sleep well. Fit perfect inside the hood of a sleeping bag. The surface is comfortable, if not slide it inside of something.
Am I correct you have one year of familiarity with the unit that is the familiar unit, versus trying something else that you haven't been in before? And it was 4 years ago?
The larger diameter scope tubes were/are designed for dialing capability. A 1-inch scope will do you no harm shooting a 270 Winchester with respect to ballistics and dialing with a 1-inch scope versus a 30 mm, IMO.
When in the field and shooting game, you are not going to control how fast you...
@nagibson1, when you missed animals from flinching, you continued flinching and missing more animals? How many have been "... hitting and the bullet not killing them"?
If you've had enough experience with both issues to make a comparison then you've had some rough times and so have some...
I've followed the wolf reintroduction closely. It's a cluster. I'm absolutely proud of the ranchers for waiting until the 11th hour at the end of the year to put in almost 6/10 of a million dollars of claims for depredation and loss.
As most know, the whole Fiasco passed in the voter's eyes by...
I can see where you're coming from. I should keep Colorado out of it. It is an issue in most/all Western states. I don't hear about it in eastern states though, is it the grandeur of the West that is the draw? Some eastern states have a million+(!) deer and multiple tags per license.
Can't...
Everything in life is subject to change. homeowners insurance rates, auto insurance, property taxes, all is a moving goal post. All things that we pay for based on other people being in the same pool.
With respect it seems naive to think States aren't going to change when the people that live...
