Talk to me about the 6.5 SAUM Improved

Jay, it has also crossed my mind. Not sure I can get the speed I am looking for out of a short barrel with that one though. From my limited research I am seeing around 3000-3100 fps from 140-147 class bullets out of a 26" barrel. Thanks, Mike!

KRG Echo - Sporterish version of bravo for tikkas

@General RE LEE, post #175 of this thread has a pic of a carbon Sendero profile barrel in an Echo (albeit with the barrel channel spacers removed). If that profile fits, the 22mm profile on the CTR barrel will fit with the requite RokSlide "dead cat" room.

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

Ok, since I did end up jumping in and cluttered up the thread with "non-failure" information, I will actually add a data point. 1999, middle SC. I was hunting a corn field with a 7RM using Winchester Supreme ammo that had the old 140 grain Silvertip (coated NBT) bullets. Had a 2.5 year old...

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

That is because in almost all the cases, there is no accompanying evidence (i.e necropsy photos, etc). Another thing to consider is that in almost all cases, if you go back and read the posts, nobody is challenging the fact that larger caliber frangible bullets perform well. We all know that...

What caliber (not cartridge) is best for short barreled rifles when shooting heavy bullets?

To answer the caliber question, I believe it is pretty much equal from 6mm-7mm, so you are talking 6 (243), 6.5 (264), 6.8 (270), and 7 (284). All of them perform pretty effectively in short barrels in the various chamberings. For cartridges, good short-barrel performers are 6X45 6ARC 6...

    Nice try Mr. ATF man

Back in the day, you could buy the parts, submit your Form 1, and then when it was approved, drill and assemble. I have a pretty decent Form 1 suppressor. Ti tube that was machined without the end cap drilled (it was marked, however) some SS freeze plugs, a couple of Ti valve spring covers as...

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

Read the above bold and Italics. What you are saying is that relaying an experience, with photos and/or videos to show the evidence of said experience are opinions? If so, you really should look up the definition of opinion. An analogy for you. You rob a liquor store. You are on video and a...

For the same reason he can't comprehend the full statement that KHntr wrote, or what I wrote. He is reading everything through his victim lenses.

Talk to me about the 6.5 SAUM Improved

I have thought about the 6.5 Sherman Max or Mega as well. I am confident I can get there with one of those. Just was looking for something a bit "more different" if that makes sense. I have a 338 Mega that I like a lot, but honestly, it is more of a "cool factor" gun than anything else. It...

Talk to me about the 6.5 SAUM Improved

Do like wildcats. :) The SAUM has a about a 5% case capacity increase over the 6.5-06AI. Also my 6.5-06AI is a 19" barrel, so it is a bit slower. Edit to add: Another reason I am looking at the SAUM/Shermans is that I have a 7RM Tikka that I can build off of.

Talk to me about the 6.5 SAUM Improved

I am seriously contemplating cutting my rifle collection down significantly. I don't have kids so passing them down to someone isn't really an option. I do have a nephew who hunts, but he likes to buy his own stuff. I do have a couple of rifles I will probably end up giving him, but the rest...

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

But that isn't possible, so you have to look for similarities and be able to accurately predict the outcomes of your tests. That is the point. Once you get to the point where you can accurately predict the outcome of your test to a certain confidence interval the theory is considered proven...

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

And now you get to the crux of the issue. If you go back and read what is being said in those posts, specifically from Form and others, you will see that what they clearly say is that in that particular instance, the damage that was done and the way the animal reacted in that situation, was...

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

Because in all of the posts that people get up in arms about (killing stuff with a .223 and scope drops) all he really does is post up pictures and a write up of what he found. Nowhere in those posts does he state an opinion. No "I thinks" or "I feels", just "this is what I observed and here...

7 PRC - finding loads for all occasions?

Use the same bullet for both. There is nothing magical about elk. They are just wider and taller than deer. A good elk bullet will be a good deer bullet and vice versa. Whether to use monos or not is another topic. I wouldn't.

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

I have yet to see a post where Form "attacks" anybody. I have seen some that came across as condescending, but in almost all of those cases, he was 1) responding to hyperbole, or 2) responding to someone who posted something that was trying to "disprove" data by presenting an anecdote or...

    Is archery dying ?

Another reason for "pro shops" dying is that: 1) a lot of them didn't know how, and didn't learn how to actually set up a bow. Most just through a peep, d-loop, sight, and rest on, grabbed a generic fletched arrow and then proceeded to move the rest around until they got a bullet hole and...

Yes. Just shoot it and let the target tell you when it is time to clean.
