    Narrowed down new mountain rifle

Again, many, many thousands of us have used these scopes without this being a problem. If there's a rare lemon in the bunch that becomes problematic, then the company takes care of it for free. I would worry about this with an $80 Tasco but have never thought twice about trusting a VX-3.

    Narrowed down new mountain rifle

Leupold VX-3's have served many thousands of hunters well for decades. I know how snooty roksliders like to get about their optics, but I personally don't see any reason to pay more than $500 for a scope (on a hunting rifle) unless you're a dedicated LR hunter. I believe in spending dollars on...

To Peep sight or not ?

Definitely peep. I'm not a muzzleloader guy, but I have two classic lever actions that I hunt with, both of which were topped with classic semi-buckhorn sights. I realized I couldn't see squat through those, and my time behind a bow engendered an affection for the peep-and-pin system. I...

    Narrowed down new mountain rifle

Tikka announced at the SHOT show that all their barrels will be threaded for 2025 and beyond, so that should help. The T3x Lite in blued steel and black stock is only $750. You can pay a little more for stainless, or more still for camo/roughtech with cerakote on the BA. But if you do the...

    Narrowed down new mountain rifle

You're getting lots of input here, @Mudshack. I'm feeling unreasonably vested in this decision now, and I'm dying to know how you're leaning? Have you narrowed down your rifle choices? Have we convinced you to consider a smaller cartridge?

    Narrowed down new mountain rifle

Like so many others have said, I would choose a smaller cartridge first and foremost. I'm not even a small bore guy, but I still feel that 300 WM is way more than necessary for what's out there. I do like to to err a touch on the heavy side, so my personal range of cartridges would be from 280...

The best electric vehicle? Ram1500 ramcharger?

There are plenty of truck buyers who don't utilize a large bed. Suburbanites who haul campers and toy haulers, people in wintery climates who like the traction, 4 wheel drive, and ground clearance, southerners who drive trucks because. . . they're southerners, and others who just plain like...

The best electric vehicle? Ram1500 ramcharger?

By contrast, I have a Toyota hybrid from 2015 and its fantastic. They really got a jumpstart on hybrid tech with the success of the Prius. When I bought, all the other manufacturers were lagging significantly behind. Your experience seems to suggest that Chrysler, at least, still hasn't...

Greenland - Yes or No? Where are the "we need more public land" people?

It's definitely true of Greenland: https://www.barrons.com/news/we-don-t-want-to-be-americans-greenland-pm-says-4c88419c

There is no animal that is tougher than any other.

I was amazed the first time I gutted a pig by how much tougher their bodies are than whitetails. The skin several is times thicker and much, much tougher. The organs are even harder to cut through and separate from one another than a deer. I'm not saying that changes the way they die after a...

What is YOUR Small Caliber on Big Game Experience?

Agreed. Poll results might (but - being rokslide - also might not) differ if we defined big game. I would call all deer medium game, and would have no compunction about chasing one with a .223. I voted NO, however, because my personal minimum for elk or caribou is a 6.8/270.

I suck at Knife Sharpening - Videos, classes, suggestions?

If I were willing to spend that much, I'd get a Wicked Edge system. They're well known and trusted among knife nerds and professionals. I've used their flagship system and I'd have a hard time believing that there's anything better on the market.

I suck at Knife Sharpening - Videos, classes, suggestions?

I don't love that belt sharpener from Work Sharp. Others can use it with good results, but I found it difficult to use. My personal advice would be to get rid of it and grab their Precision Adjust system instead. I've found it to be a fantastic balance between price and performance. Get the...
