Thought experiment- complete budget clothing system from scratch

Yeah for western hunting id double my budget just get boots for sure. I royally f'd my feet my first elk hunt with boots that just didnt fit me. I think costco has some really great options and a guy could even go to the dark side and hit target or walmart for polyester bases and hoodies if...

Thought experiment- complete budget clothing system from scratch

I have a ton of wranglers and my favorite upland pants are actually the double front work pants they have. Super affordbale and have held up amazingly for all the miles I've worn them. My wrangler outdoors nylon pants have been decently durable, but I have blown out a crotch on 2 pairs and the...

Thought experiment- complete budget clothing system from scratch

I personally don't wear them hunting but people sure vouch do seem to like them! I guess for the price if you blow out the crotch you could get another. Or spring dor something just a bit more money and beefier like black ovis etc

Thought experiment- complete budget clothing system from scratch

Since its raining and I'm stuck at work on mindless meetings today.... I did a little thought experiment. I had a person at my gym ask me about what she would need to hunt deer this year. I borrowed her everything she would need to enjoy her time in the woods and she shot herself a really nice...

    Deer movement hoopla...

Help me understand the data I'm looking at. High pressure seems to be correlated with more deer killed. Correct? If that's the case I would buy that. I also find that I like hunting consistent weather patterns way more than leading or following a cold front or a weather change. It sure seems...

    Heated vest experience?

For me, the pnuma vest is a great add for cold all day type sits. I don't use it until it is real bitter as I do a ton of hang and hunts and am usually only in the stand 3 hours max. Nothing beats good workhorse type layers but as an addition to those layers, the hetaed vest is fricken sweet.

Hawk Saddle Platform vs. XOP EDGE – Which One for a Beginner?

The edge has been nothing but solid for me. Cam it down and it stays. I did try a buddies tethrd phantom and that was more tricky and finicky. The edge is heavy for its size but it's simple to use and stout. I do prefer trophyline, but edge platforms can be had new for very reasonable and...

    Mystery ranch metcalf- loud squeaks!

Mine was from the stays within the stitching. Tried everything. Much better, but still not perfect. I still really like the pack, and when I'm packing out heavy the squeaks let me know I'm alive

Hawk Saddle Platform vs. XOP EDGE – Which One for a Beginner?

Trophyline is awesome. I started with an XOP edge, and now have a mission as well and use them both a lot. If Id have bought an onyx first Id probably just have 1. Probably not, lets be serious I'm a gear whore

    Mystery ranch metcalf- loud squeaks!

It actually did solve my problem for now as far as I can tell! Im not sure what other fabric they would need to use to avoid this all together but it would be great if they moved to a permanent fix

Hawk Saddle Platform vs. XOP EDGE – Which One for a Beginner?

I enjoy my x2 steps but i did just have one crack on the stand off. Just inspect them periodically and I'm sure you'll be fine. That platform is insanely light for the price. Eventually you'll likely upgrade your saddle but you can absolutely hunt with that mondo. I did a full season and it was...

Hawk Saddle Platform vs. XOP EDGE – Which One for a Beginner?

Honestly I really like the xop I have. Its not the lightest, but its sturdy, quiet and goes up easy. I still use the cam buckle, but have it stealth stripped to help qith clanking. Its not a bad platform for the money. It has features I never use, but truly it isn't bad at all. There are...

Clothing for late October / early November Dakota pheasant?

Here is my favorite do all upland clothing set up for the entire season dependent upon conditions- Socks- darn tough, smart wool or farm to feet damascus. The lighter versions built for running are best in my experience. Bring 4 pairs because you're going to get wet feet Base layer bottom-...

Are lightweight baselayer bottoms a waste?

Ok so hear me out. I've been testing whether or not I find value in a light weight baselayer for the type of hunting and here is what I have found For stationary hunting, thats a short distance from the truck- no a light baselayer isn't worth a darn to me. I will still be cold as if I didnt...

7mm-08 Rem success on big game

My dad hand loaded my wife a 120 ttsx at 2550 and it doesnt even move her. That lower recoil makes for great control and 0 fear of the gun. She is excited to practice

    A nation of wimps?

I don't believe the entire nation has gone soft. We get pushed a narrative of masculinity being bad, but when I look around with the people I surround myself with I see strong men, fantastic women and young kids raised right. I think the need for God and good men and a strong family unit has...
