What causes this and would you reuse the brass?

Asking this question makes me realize how little I know about ballistics and makes me want to start reloading all the more. So I know the contents of each round and inspect all cases. I have several hundred Hornady 7mm PRC cases now that will all get inspected and eventually reloaded if still...

What causes this and would you reuse the brass?

the handloads are actually a few more grains and faster fps but didn’t do this but same 175g. I have every piece of brass this rifle has cycled and looked over each box. Four of the first 5 rounds today had ejector marks and the 4th was the one with the primer coming out and black marks near the...

What causes this and would you reuse the brass?

This was the 4th of 40 rounds. Thinking this was a bad one in the bunch. I inspected the rest thoroughly. Other than feed issues (which could have been me not pulling the bolt back all the way as we were trying to shoot 3 shot groups faster).

What causes this and would you reuse the brass?

The rifle is a McWhorter 7prc with a Borden action. I shot two boxes of Hornady 175g Precision Hunter today and this is the only case that had black marks near the edge/ejector. The primer came out when ejected. A few other cases had marks from (what I’m calling) the ejector but most were fine...

What causes this and would you reuse the brass?

This is a 7prc Hornady 175g Precision Hunter factory load. It was very hard to pull back the bolt and eject. I’m accumulating brass and have yet to get into reloading. Please educate me on what signs to look for on a case. Why the burn marks on the edge? What can be done to prevent this in the...

SFP is BETTER than FFP for LR Hunting... Change My Mind

If under 300yds and dialed back from 100% zoom I’ll dial when zeroed at 100yds but rarely hold for wind at that range unless 20+mph. At that range I’m 2.5moa up 1.75moa for 15mph wind @ 90degree angle. SFP the aim point on the target is negligible and FFP the hash marks are too small. “Tad”...

    Alaska Sheep Hunt Pricing

sounds great. and clearly my son will pay for his sheep hunt on his own! I'm probably in your target audience if i can find the time to make it to Alaska to hunt. I'm willing to pay a premium for the time and resources someone who lives there can provide. the harvest is just a part of it. i...

    Colorado releases first 5 wolves

When will all this “science” determine there are just too many people. Reintroducing apex predators to a region where wildlife is confined to smaller and smaller areas because of human expansion will result in decimation of the wildlife and more encounters with humans as wildlife flees...

    Lightest weight higher end scope

I look at this differently now. Lightest higher end hunting scope doesn’t need to be more that 15x or FFP for hunting (for me). And 6x or 10x is fine for most scenarios . If dialed fully and shooting far then holds work fine. If dialed back I’m prob not holding for wind anyway inside 300yards...

    Choosing a Dog

I have 2 WPGs. Couldn’t be happier. One sheds a little. Love to hunt/swim. Had goldens and labs prior. Like all dogs they’ll be as good as the time you spend training them.

    Lightest weight higher end scope

I think most glass quality differences are beyond what my 53yr old eyes can detect any longer. It’s more environmental - humidity, mirage or the manual dialing the focus and parallax correctly. As long as it’s a reticle I can see clearly. If there’s a scientific measurement of glass quality...

    Lightest weight higher end scope

following. I think I want another optic b/c LRP S3 4-25x is fun at the range and long shots, i don't need 25x for hunting and @ 36oz it's just heavy. So far I'm debating between Trijicon Tenmile HX for FFP @ ~22oz or Swaro Z5 SFP @ 15.9oz. Those are about the lightest in the 15-18x...

    So I got a smoker

It’s makes smoking a breeze with and temp probes. Use mine often but usually have leftovers for days. Did a 16hr brisket smoke for thanksgiving. Having the temp and info on my phone makes it simple. Ditched the gas grill years ago and use both the Traeger and Big GreenEgg

Trijicon Tenmile 3-18x44mm Field Eval Q&A

Damn. I missed this. Hope it goes on sale again soon. Would save me 12oz and get the monkey off my back of thinking my scope is too heavy.

    Dog names

Dallas (golden) Silas (chocolate lab) both passed Currently two WPGs Otter and Buck. Otter hit me while drinking a can of Otter Water and I wanted Boone for an Animal House spin (fitting) but family picked Buck instead.

    Fitness equipment

53yrs old. I think body weight exercises and stretching are key to start. I have everything in the garage and it’s body weight, resistance bands, trx strap exercises and stretching that get the most use. Followed my kettle bells and slam/medicine balls. Especially as I sit here recovering...
