This is cool to see, my exact feelings on this topic. I did motor cross (had some bad wrecks), baseball, only 1 year of football thank God, and a lot of general jacka**ery. I also am a heavy equipment mechanic so I have an active and physical job. I’m hoping to get into something easier on the...
I’m a big fan of Carter releases. Unfortunately they aren’t super common to have on hand at shops, in my area at least. I’ve become a big fan of try before you buy after buying and selling a lot.
Mine is the magnetic style. Totally could just be the release design, it opens the opposite direction of my thumb button and has a much beefier hook than my hinge.
When I got my bow I tuned it using my hand held releases and have been shooting hand helds for years. I’ve recently been shooting a Carter rx-1 index release as I feel like for hunting an index release is hard to beat. However I shot my bow through paper once just to double check everything...
Yeah it's super dead. That's really how I ended up with it. I was pretty decided on buying a PSE but when I shot everything next to the phase 4 nothing felt right with how dead it was. However I didn't shoot a VTM or RX7. I had just sold a ventum 33 and wanted to try a different brand than hoyt...
Can’t go wrong with any of them. I went home with a phase 4 33 this year. But if I did it all over again good chance I would leave with something else. Really I want one of each haha.
Shooting victory vf tko right now, they are good tough arrows. I’ll probably try something different tho next time around, either regular 5mm rip or Easton axis. I don’t want to spend 20$ a shaft for rip tko or anything. I prefer to stay closer to 10$ for a bare shaft.
I picked up a carter rx1 and I think that's what I'll be hunting with. It was between that and my hinge. I feel like the rx1 will be much better in hunting situations than a hinge and I don't really shoot it any worse than a hinge or thumb.
Personally I probably wouldn't change anything. That thing is probably still faster than the average bowhunters set up with a 33inch draw. Any idea of FPS?
Glad this thread is still going! I’m not even sure what I’m hunting with this year. Shot a 3D this morning mostly with a Carter target 3 but shot a few targets with tru fire sear hinge.
I'm the same way, can't stand long neck releases or I'd probably have the ultra view. The same reason is why I don't like my tru fire sear hinge. I don't like my anchor with a hinge as much as a thumb anyways, it feels weird to me to try to anchor when holding more tension on my pointer finger...
I agree, I’ve never thought about hand shock before, but have never really had a bow that had very much. It was just so obvious when shooting the omen and phase 4 side by side. I’m pretty happy with the Mathew’s but I still want an omen lol
I sold a like mike 2 a couple months ago and wish I wouldn’t have. I think I’m more accurate with my thumb but feel like an index is kind of unbeatable for a lot of hunting situations.
