Custom 5" Model 29-2 44 magnum. Interchangeable Classic/DX style front sight system, narrowed and smoothed target trigger, trigger job, recrowned muzzle, etc.
Hands down my favorite .44.
I do a fair bit of handgunning, to include handgun hunting when given the chance, so custom pistols ( or ones modified to suit my tastes) come with the territory.
This is a .45 ACP/Colt Convertible built on a medium frame that is pretty much used exclusively as an ACP. It has an aluminum grip...
Talley Lightweights are my "Go-To" rings, and I use them on a .300wm (shown), .338wm, as well as .308s and .223s. The .300, .338 and .308 all have brakes and I have never had any issues. They all have held up season after season with no issues.
Talleys are a solid choice OP.
Multi-Use AR.
Ultra lite Faxon Barrel on my old Colt I have run since the late 90s. 4X ACOG topped with RDO in custom mount.
Very fast, very light. It works for a variety of roles. It may not be optimal for a single thing, but it works very well at many things, and is easy to shoot well, quickly.
Used my German Flectarn Goretex shell and bibs this year. More for the Goretex/waterproof/wind stopping ability, than camouflage nature of the items. I was darn glad to have them. I actually like the pattern though.
I got caught in a bit of a nasty storm in December on a late cow elk hunt...
Below is a post that I wrote and posted on another site about the G30S, which I believe is an extremely practical Outdoorsman's sidearm.
Years ago I had a Glock 30 ( a compact .45 ACP, that holds 10 rounds in the magazine, and can use the full size 13 round Glock 21 mags) for a number of...
I just use a Norwegian, or Finnish (or some Scandinavian country that I cannot remember since I have had it so long) white smock, that zips over my down coat. It has worked fine for years.
I built this AR as a purpose built predator rifle.
I tend to walk a fair bit between sets, so I wanted it light and handy.
It has a White Oak Precisionbarrel that has been turned down to a "pencil" profile, mostly Colt Defense internals, Geiessele trigger, and a carbon fiber for-end. It used...
Another 6mm Remington fan here.
Mine is built on a T3 action, with a Lilja barrel.
Topped with a Leupold 4-14 "long range", with an M1 elevation turret.
I don't know about the Bear Lake area in general, but I was just up in Salmon, Challis and Mackay this weekend, and the winter kills are much higher than usual. Hwy 93 from Arco through Mackay has a reduced speed due to animals on the road, and it has been that way for months.
That said, I did...
I will readily admit that I don't much care for "cheap" glass, when it comes to my big game or precision rifles.
Due to other people's opinions and experiences, who I know and respect, I figure I would try an SWFA fixed 10X, while I saved for another Nightforce, to stick on my T3 .300.
Long...
I have been using NF NXS scopes for a number of years and picked up an SHV a couple years ago. It is on a heavy barrel .260 (not much in terms of recoil).
The turrets track in a repeatable manner, and the glass is good.
I have zero complaints.
It is simply a T3 Lite in 308, cut back to 20"s. It now has a brake added. The scope is an NF 2.5-10x24, with Talley lightweights. The sling is a VTAC. I use the same sling for M4s, hunting guns, etc. The versatile nature of the sling lets me sling it to the side, to kneel down, or in front...
What a precision rifle shooter's role is in the .gov/.mil versus a recreational hunter's role is like comparing apples to hand grenades. I have some experience in the martial use of precision rifles:
as well as shooting at matches.
That said, while sometimes I will take a heavy barrel...
This was my first thought too.
Re-spring your G21 and grab a couple of boxes of 45 Super.
Shoot a box to ensure functioning, the load the rest up and go.
