You've obviously put a lot of thought into your gear. Far more than me. Looking through your list, the one thing that comes to mind that I'm surprised isn't included is a brimmed hat, unless I missed it. I hate being out on a sunny day without a hat to keep the sun out of my eyes. I think my...
I have a 224 Predator (22 Grendel variation) and I've necked down 100 lapua 6.5 Grendel and 100 starline 6.5 Grendel in one step, without ruining any cases, using hornady dies. Might depend on the dies/lube you use.
Other than needing to adjust a powder charge (slightly) to deal with a milder or hotter primer, I haven't seen a difference in 223. I generally use standard primers with stick powders and magnum primers with ball powders but it doesn't seem to me like the 223 has enough powder for it to matter...
Haha, that's what I was thinking when I saw the question. Where there's a will there's away, right? In all seriousness, I have a Nissan Frontier (with the short bed) and it's no problem.
Should have thought about it more. I suppose variable ring spacing could be overcome by including a spacer with the rings to set correct spacing and then remove after tightening, but then you'd have very little mounting flexibility.
With CNC equipment it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to make rings with 20 Moa built in. I only have very limited experience in that area though so I'd be curious to hear someone thoughts on that (@Unknown Munitions). Burris Extreme signature rings work well, but are only for picatinny...
As an additional data point, I had a 1-12" 30-06 (measured with cleaning rod) that shot 208 Amax just fine. I'm at 4500' or so though. Never tried anything heavier in that gun.
Oh, gotcha, my initial response was because I've seen guy worry too much about small variations but that's too much and I wouldn't accept it either. I'm not sure what a reasonable expectation is for the uniflow with good technique. The next time I have H4350 out I'll write down some weights with...
How much variation are getting from one throw to another? I'm not an expert, but my guess is + or + 0.2 grains won't even show up on a target at 500 or 600 yards. From field positions anyway. 0.1 grain accuracy is nice, but not as needed as people sometimes think. I'm using a Lee thrower, but...
Everything above is true, I'd just add that even if Hodgdon (or Nosler) repeated their testing with everything as exactly the same as possible, I wouldn't expect them to get the exact same results. That's just how gathering experimental data works - there's always variation. However, I'd bet...
Normalish probably. I haven't done enough testing to know how common it is, but I've seen similar stuff enough that I don't think it's uncommon. Little changes in humidity during manufacturing can cause what you're observing. The manufacturers control what they can, but nothings perfect. I...
I'm still shooting a-max in a 22-250 AI. It's a low volume shooter for me and I bought a bunch just before the ELD came out. They're good, but I won't miss them when they're gone.
@JGRaider I hear you on not liking how the covid stuff went down.
I'd love the ELDm's to cost the same as the A-max did, but I really don't hold the price increase against Hornady. They're still often one of the cheapest high-BC bullets available and for the most part I'm just glad they aren't...
There's a lot of things people do because "that's the way it's always been done". Some of those things hold up under testing and some are shown to be unnecessary. Big Stick takes particular satisfaction in going against the grain on things that have always been done a particular way. He's been...
I have one on a 10/22 and one on an AR-15. The one on the 10/22 wouldn't focus out of the box. SWFA replaced it (after a several month wait to get back in stock). The next one focused fine but the power ring locked up within the first outing or two for ground squirrels. They gave me store credit...
The Lee perfect powder measure has a "micrometer adjustable metering chamber". I doubt it's as repeatable as the high-end measures but haven't tested. To me it just feels a little sloppy, which is what I'm basing my guess on. I used the basic model for years and then bought a deluxe. I think...
Really good info. One of the big reasons I haven't tested the Lee thrower is the only electronic scale I have is my old Pact, which only has 0.1 grain resolution. There doesn't seem like much point in testing the thrower without a better scale.
I've heard good things about the Harrell. Another one I've heard good things about is the JDS Quickmeasure. I've just been happy enough with my results so far, that I haven't been able to talk myself into a new powder measure.
