Very good points. You also need to keep in mind, the governor's office is packed with folks that don't think logically and are appointing commissioners that think similarly. Imagine CA politicians managing the CO state budget.
NR hunting is not going away, but opportunity will be more scarce...
Yup. Removal of 14 OTC units (rifle) and keeping unlimited OTC tags will only compress folks into the remaining OTC units. It'll be a rodeo if your hunting OTC rifle this year. Hopefully the over-arching OTC/Crowding problem will be addressed in 2025 with the new BG structure, but 2024 OTC will...
I'll post a thread with more details, but thought I'd share my hunting success with my 6.8W.
Load Data:
Bullet: 175gr Sierra Tipped Game King
Primer: Federal LR Magnum
Powder: 58gr H4831SC
Jump: 0.020" off land
MV: ~2835fps (no chrono, just back calculated based on empirical data generated by...
For live aerial imagery you can use "Zoom.Earth". It's a website that is free and will give you live images from a distance. Unfortunately, if you zoom in too close you'll notice the live imagery will shift to static, archived imagery. So it's only beneficial when glancing at an area from an...
I have the 1.5HP MYM grinder and highly recommend it. I'm a big advocate of buying more grinder than you think you need because nothing is more frustrating than jamming it up and having to take it apart mid-grind. That was my experience with a smaller LEM. I do about 4-6 big game animals a year...
Not trying to hijack the thread, but has anybody tried fire forming ADG 7SAUM brass in their 6.8W? I've been using 1shot factory ammo brass for the last couple of years with good results (Browning Nickel Brass). I've considered the 7SAUM route but haven't tried it yet.
I have a 6.8W and love it. Between the kids and I, we've taken 3 elk, 3 mulies and 4 pronghorn with 175g Sierras. Shots between 40-500yds. Great performance on critters and tame recoil for my 12yo. A 7mm will likely have the same performance on those animals, so I'd buy what you'd like to shoot...
As a 6.8W guy, I'd love to have the slight case capacity improvement with the 270WSM and shoot the 175g Sierra's that I've had real good success with. A fast twist 270WSM would be a great all purpose gun.
Looking for a bighorn sheep decoy for an archery ewe hunt. Would love a "Be the Decoy" or "Ultimate Predator", but open to others. Let me know if you've got one laying around.
The reality is that Colorado OTC hunting is going away. Unlimited/uncapped OTC tags are not sustainable for many reasons and its very easy to come to this conclusion if you do your research. This petition is based on this assumption.
This petition is an attempt to preserve OTC hunting for...
I used 270WSM data to narrow in on a good 6.8W recipe. In my experience, the 270WSM data is very similar to 6.8W. Both Hodgdon and Shooters Reference both have 6.8W load data for 6.8W and the 165ABLR. The 270WSM should have a little more case capacity than the 6.8. So I'd use the 6.8W data to...
Good insight. I shoot a Prime Logic CT3 @ 70#, 4 fletch BE Spartans with brass up front. I'll probably stick with the Std cutting diameter to avoid adding any other variables into my setup. The SB125's shoot great for me, so I don't want to comprise accuracy at longer ranges. Many thanks.
I'm going to double because that's the only logical reason the broadhead was missing...maybe it spun off as it carved though the elk. For that reason, I don't want to loose any more Iron Will broadheads ($) and don't want to use Loctite on the threads. Additionally, I really don't think there is...
Yes, the arrow was completely intact, but the broadhead was missing. I tighten the heads on with a broadhead wrench and put a small dab of bowstring wax in the threads to make sure they don't make any noise in flight. Never had an issue with heads spinning off, but even though the head was...
I shot and recovered my elk last year with the iron will single bevel - std width head. Interestingly enough, when I walked up on the cow, the broadhead was gone. It likely spun off due to improper rotation, but I'm not entirely sure since I shoot a right helical and had the SB right head...
