Thanks Robby and Rob. I will look into that site. I think I have located one locally, thank goodness. Also, several people have suggested a hair band around the barrel and ramrod to keep it in place. I'm going to give that a try.
I shot a nice feral pig with my Wolf on Friday morning (sorry, no pictures). Very pleased with the accuracy and performance, although it was only about a 30 yard shot, lol. On Saturday, after a day of still hunting in the rain, I strapped my Wolf to my backpack so I could have both hands while...
If you want to know for sure you could google "remington date codes" and use the codes on the barrel stamps to figure out the manufacturer date. If you do, let us know, I am curious to know. It could be one of the very first, pretty rare.
I would not mess with it too much. Remington introduced the Model 700 in 1962, so your rifle may be one of the earliest production model 700s. It probably was not made in '61, but it could have been I guess, which could mean it is a prototype and who wants to mess with something like that...
I have a Seek Outside stove and it has a similar burn time. From what I have read that is about what you can expect with any of them. If you stop feeding it, it burns out. I found the trick is to have a good sleep system and get in your bag while you are nice and warm from the stove before it...
That really sucks. That's not your everyday backpack so hopefully the thief will stand out when he tries to sell it. Whenever I park in a sketchy public land spot I hang a game camera pointing at my truck, preferably at least one climbing stick high and locked on. Luckily I have never been...
Cut the legs out of some old jeans, sew one end shut, fill with sand, twist tie the other end with wire. Four bags per pair of jeans. Plus you can use them in the back of the truck to hold blowy things down.
I know what you mean eagle_eye. I have a Patagonia Capilene Shirt I bought in 1991 that I still wear. One of these days I will have to make that hard decision, lol. I like the gaiters idea but I wonder if this fabric is durable enough. I was also thinking maybe some kind of flat organizer bags...
Anyone ever reuse Gore-tex or other similar material from old rain gear? I have a parka that is falling apart at the seams but the material is still good. I have a new parka so I have already salvaged all the bungee cords, zipper pulls, and clips for use on other projects. Writing this I thought...
I bought a Cabela's slug gun scope to put on my slug gun. I don't recall what I paid but it was >$100. I was sceptical about it but so far it has held up and stays on zero. Optical and finish quality was better than I expected. I am in Alabama where you can pretty much use any weapon in most...
Update on my post yesterday: I used my LW Assault instead of taking my saddle. Hanging that larger platform was more difficult than my tiny Tethrd platform, not terrible but after using the saddle platform I am spoiled. Comfort was good once I got settled. However, I noticed my awareness of what...
I used a saddle all last season and for the few hunts I have been on this year, but today I am taking my hang-on. I have managed to feel fairly comfortable in the saddle but sometimes I wish I could sit down without pressure on my hips. I'm 53, so I probably have more aches and pains than some...
I like the Skinner peep too. I have one mounted on a Marlin 1894 in .44mag. It's a fun gun to shoot and I have made shots on deer out to 95 yards with no problem. Probably could take a little longer shot but I don't usually carry it if I think a long shot is probable.
I also have a Marlin 336...
