Planning my first elk hunt (Colorado)
Sounds a lot like our first elk hunt this year even down to the bull moose. We also saw a lot of sign (seemed like every thick batch of trees we would walk through) but when they are not talking I thought it was really hard to decide which direction to go everyday. -

Co activity?
Just got back from central CO on a week trip and didn't hear a bugle all week. Found a lot of sign but only saw 1 elk. Pretty frustrating for a first elk hunt -

Why did you pick that state to Elk hunt?
I chose Colorado because it was close and the ease of getting a OTC tag...if you put in for preference for Wyoming yet this year you might be able to draw a general tag with 1 year preference and I hear there are some really general tag units. -

Lawrence county/lead sd mulies bowhunt.
there are definitely some quality mule deer in the area if you can locate them but the population has been on the down hill for awhile so they can be pretty tough to find. They used to hang out pretty close to Lead, even right around the houses a lot of the time. Plenty of whitetails around if...- drrice

South Dakota?
If you want to look for elk sheds go around the burn areas in the hills. They like to winter in those areas.- drrice

holy cross wilderness
We plan on back packing in a ways and camping so hopefully that will help us out. Just trying to find a spot to start is the hardest part as there looks like a lot of good areas. I am sure we will second guess every move on our first time though. -

by the looks on the motor vehicle use map it looks like there is a lot of country where you can get away from jeep trials.
