I won't stop you from spending money but if you want a lighter, smaller set of binos, you can do a lot worse than the 8x23 Nikon Venturers used for about $40. I have 8x32 Swarovskis and 10x42 Kahles binos for other hunt but the little NIkons are optically darn good just not as robust as others.
Hornady Superformance 270 Winchester with 130 gr CX bullets works very well on elk. In a 20" barrel, they chrono at 3144 in my rifle. All I need for elk out to 500.
Do you get in the pop-up before sunrise and stay there until after dark all day?
I’m not worried about an all day sit at a water hole. I have a lot of patience. I’m worried about being able to handle the heat. I’ve read that the inside a pop up can get up to 125 or 130°. I’m wondering if up on...
Elk are not that hard to kill. They have a big kill zone, the size of a trash can lid. Use good bullets with the 6.5 or 30-06 and you will be fine at your ranges.
Elk are very tenacious of life. If hit poorly they will run to the next county. But hit soundly, you will not be tracking...
Go on ebay and get a set of used Nikon Venturers 8x23 binos. I have a couple pair for car binos. Very good optics, and you can buy them for $30-$40 delivered. Not as robust as my Swarovskis in the rough climates but the definition is very good, they are tiny and very affordable. Have fun.
I've taken a lot of pronghorns, seven with a bow and over 40 rifle. One thing, if you look at his face, and everything looks black, it's a mature buck. He may not score well or may but he's got some years. Another, the trick is finding them and then getting close enough for a shot. They are...
I have the same problem plus 4e width and high volume. Lathrop and Sons took good care of me with my boot issue. I can go to REI and can't even get my feet all the way in the boots they sell there.
They will be used as an excused to shut down public access, especially hunting, in areas where they are planted. The current regime is vehemently anti-hunting, under the guise of "wildlife managing wildlife."
It will leak on you at the worst possible time, your hunting in cold weather. I had that happen to some Kahles binos several years ago. They repaired and upgraded the binos for $400. I'd bet it is about $600 now, but money well spent.
Carter 1st Choice Release. I bought it, tried it, and I can't get used to it. It's in excellent shape, works perfectly. I'm just better with my Spot Hogg Keeton. It's just sitting in my closet, and in need of a good home.
Note: I had a request for a photo, so I added two. I can see them...
Bob, no more stickbows?
I had one for many years and it finally broke. Hunted for the past two years without and just bought a replacement. For me, I shoot better with it than any other release, and can hold at full draw longer. Takes a little getting used to, primarily the opportunity to...
The Carter Like Mike is a great release. My preference is the Spot Hogg Keeton. For whatever reason, I can hold it longer. And when shooting at fidgety animals, that's a huge benefit. I can overcome the noise factor. YMMV.
Yes, after a shoulder injury, I would get a random collapse of my bow arm shooting a longbow. Bought a Mathews Switchback XT in 2006 and have not looked back. Holding 12 lbs or less on my 60 lb bow solved the problem. The alternative was a shoulder operation and a year of rehab before I...
