Crossing the Sag on Haul Rd Hunt

I'm in the midst of planning for a fall 2024 Haul Rd hunt with son and son-in-law and hoping to get some insight from those with experience with the Sag River. Specifically, I am hoping to learn what's the most practical gear needed for crossing the Sag. The plan right now is we will be...

Stove wood prep time and amount

Zap, this baffle concept is new to me, but I'm really liking what it could do to enhance the stove. A question about making a baffle.....How much gap is needed between the top of the stove and the concave side of the baffle. I'm running a seek sxl which has a 10.25 inch width so wondering if...

Stove wood prep time and amount

Zap, how does the baffle affect boiling water or cooking on the stovetop? More specifically, does the surface top cool somewhat, slowing a water boil?

    Redcliff stove pipe length

svivian.....thanks for the pics. That makes me more comfortable with the proposed 7.5 ft length in the hot tent package. Much appreciated!

    Light tent heater

many years ago I used a single candle version for a backpacking trip as a test for hunting. It had some benefit if you were hanging out in the tent, but it was not of value to me for a quick "take the chill off" while getting up for the day as I don't stay in the tent more than 10 minutes after...

    Redcliff stove pipe length

I am picking up a Redcliff hot tent "bundle" and it includes a 7.5' stove pipe. This seems a bit on the short side to avoid burn holes for this tent and seems you could add another foot without too much wind trouble. Anybody have experiential opinion you can share....go longer, or not to worry...

Water Filters - Gravity vs Pump

I love carrying the Platypus big zip 3 litter with sawyer filter inline. The bag is for dirty water, dip and go and filter as I drink. I carry lightweight 5 liter bags to gravity filter into if spike camped in same spot for a few days for drinking/cooking water at camp. While I understand...

SO 6 man/ redcliff floor space

Fellerr, How did the Redcliff end up serving your needs? I'm making the same decision right now. I like the packability of the redcliff for some of my wilderness elk hunts, but planning to use it in Alaska where I could get tentbound for longer periods and would like to be able to have a...

    2022 ELK MEAT POLE

Last load out! Took new son-in-law on his first hunt and called in a this bull to 12 yards for his first kill. Was fun summer helping tune his new bow and work with him to start shooting tight groups and then cash in on all the work with his first bull. 6.5 mile pack out was good initiation too 😉

    Fowling shots and barrel corrosion

Good news! Got out this morning just before sunrise in dead calm air. Fouled clean barrel with two caps, then loaded with same load I had good luck with on a fouled barrel. First shot/cold barrel and I bulls-eyed. Thanks all for the input. I think I'm on the right track and feeling much...

    Fowling shots and barrel corrosion

Going to try fouling with caps tomorrow and see how it goes. I really appreciate everyone's input. Definitely a couple ideas for me to try. Hoping tomorrow's shooting finds success to report!

    Fowling shots and barrel corrosion

That's an interesting idea. I'll keep that trick in mind if this weekend's shooting is a bust.

    Cimarron questions

JR, how did your Redcliff work out this fall? Has it replaced the SL5 or is the Golite still in the lineup for its own purpose?
