Looking for some courage/advice on leaving a job for a 40k pay cut per year?

If you can make it with the pay cut and have a better life, I think it's a no-brainer. That is, as long as the wife is on board. Most people can spend more than they make or all of what they make.

    Optic for Savage 24 222 over 20GA

Maybe a scope that has BDC reticle with marks would work.

    Outfitters banning bergers?!

You can kill game with anything, but it's up to the outfitter to decide what their bar is. It's hard to fault their experience. If you don't like it, pick an outfitter you agree with.

How do you choose a custom rifle builder?

I don't have a custom rifle, but if I was going to buy one I'd want the following. Sighted in with a scope of my choice with a load worked up with details on the load with a bullet that I agree with. That's probably going to mean that it's a gunsmith with significant experience and not just...

    Norma bondstrike

I shot a pretty heavy (165 lbs without head, legs, skinned, and guts) Mule Deer buck at 250 yds last year with my 300 WSM with factory loads. I think the bullet did well, but I forgot to recover or look for the exit. I was pushing time since wife had a commitment, and I used her to help drag...

    Hunting with supressor vs brake

I don't think a Banish 30 is a Walmart suppressor unless you have a high opinion of Walmart. :D. I get that there are haters here, but they work just fine. Any way, suppressors and brakes are literally the opposite. A brake makes the gun much louder while the suppressor does the opposite...

    Best gasoline stabilizer

I use Sta-Bil and it works for motorcycles, but I've never heard of Star Tron. It may be just as good.

Savage 110 .270 win lite strikes

Does it do it with factory ammo? If not, it could be that you aren't seating the primers all of the way.

    An 8 pointer or a 7?

Does it matter if a whitetail is 3x3 or 3x2? Joking ... also doesn't matter if it is 7 or 8. I'm assuming you are doing an Eastern Count and counting brow tines as well. I think NRA4LIFE's post is the right answer.

    Concrete coating with traction.

Concrete resurfacer can work. Traction is all in the finish. Do a broom finish. You will have to remove the paint.

When do you need to take winter conditions seriously on mountain roads?

Never ignore the mountain weather. Being stranded is no fun, and people are stranded every year. Most AWDs aren't worth a lot when the snow is deep. They don't push very well since they are so light. Also, you may not be able to see where the road is if the snow is deep. Buy the chains and...

    UTV Vacation Destinations

If you are really talking UTV and not SxS, I'd look into the Overland routes that people take. Just keep in mind that there are fires and snow is on the way if you plan to go at high elevation.

    Lighter recoiling elk rifle

How heavy of a rifle does he want to carry? Does he/you reload or will it be factory ammo only? As noted, a suppressor will reduce recoil. Short action non magnums generally do better with short barrels. I think 7mm-08 or 308 is worth a consideration.

    what brand LR primer

Just fyi, you can probably easily trade magnums for regular. I mostly use Federal primers.

    Packable spotter of choice??

I'd suggest you look at some reviews of the compact scopes compared and also some comparisons of what you give up, in glass as well as weight, as you go smaller. There is quite a bit of information out there.

Muzzle Brake Design, top ports on ultralight build?

You should consider if you are shooting prone or not. Small brakes don't weigh that much even in steel. I don't know how sensitive you are to recoil and noise, but the extra noise may be more bothersome than the recoil. That being said, it's a 6.5 Creed, so most people will probably be handle...

    Grill for truck camping?

I like my Weber Go-Anywhere Grill. I don't know if it is smaller than what you have or not.

    Is a 6.5 PRC enough? Do I need a 7mm?

If the 30'06 did well for you, I don't understand why you are trying to go smaller. Did you simply read too many threads that are suggesting .223 and similar? :D I think people suggesting 30 caliber or above are basing it on their experience. You can disagree with their experience, but that...

Finding the Habitat - four day hunt in SW Montana

Start lower. Bucks in my area are already at 4500. I'm not saying some aren't higher, but I can look out my window and see bucks at 4500.
