    Tikka T3x Trigger Spring Replacement

Lumley spring set, right at 2 pounds on my T3X. If I ever get a T1X in left hand, will throw the lighter spring in and go for 1.5#.

    Semi-Budget arrow build

Gold Tip Hunter XT would be fantastic — or any similar .246 shaft from another maker. Axis is a good arrow, but too heavy of a GPI for my taste. With 246 arrows, for a few bucks extra, you can get improved aftermarket nocks from Beiter, etc. and play around with Gold Tip’s FACT weight inserts...

Critique my arrow build - Newbie

Seems real slow for a whitetail setup and modern compound… Been said, but you could explore other components and lose quite a few grains. Lots of lighter vanes out there. Lose the wrap, go with that 21 grain insert, use 100 grain head. A 400ish grain arrow would be cooking and be plenty for deer.

    Turkey Red dots.

I've shot a 20 gauge Ithaca M37 Turkey Slayer with an Aimpoint 9000sc for the past six years. Started with Longbeard XR and now shoot mostly TSS for various reasons (mostly cause we make broths from the bones and I don't want my little kid eating lead). From 10 yards to 50+ this gun absolutely...

    Entry level turkey hunting

Where do you live? Here in Oregon, we have some good resources available for in-person classes. I teach a few per year. A few good online resources to check out are: 1. NWTF Turkey Hunting Class 2. Shane Simpson's "Calling All Turkeys" YouTube channel +1 that you should just get out and...

Archers Advantage - How accurate on FPS and thus Spine Selection?

The AA sight tapes have been a great start for me over the years. The software math is really good if you are meticulous with your inputs. I mean grain weighting components, putting your arrows through the chrono and overriding AA's suggested value, actually measuring peep and sight distances...

    String serving material.

Powergrip .018, but it depends on what nock I'm shooting. Still in the hunt for a perfect recipe of string material and serving size to fit Beiter 12/2 nocks. Last year was the first year I started to give much thought to creating a perfect nock fit. I realized that there's a wide range of...

    One bow, multiple setups?

I've pondered the same ideas, but decided it was best to shoot the same arrow for everything -- even target games in spring/summer. I've got a backup bow, but it's even set up with the same arrows to make life simpler. If you have the time and skill to tinker and tune quickly, it's doable. If...

    Standard diameter steel inserts

@Dave0317, all good thinking and it's a coin toss at this point. Going with the Top Hat inserts would be slightly less expensive than GT plus their FACT weights -- they are like $1 a piece for each weight component. But the GT inserts with FACT weights would allow you to remove those weights...

    Standard diameter steel inserts

If you need the weight, you could consider a Gold Tip acculite with their FACT weights in the back. It's aluminum, but plenty strong for anything. I've sent a few through plywood and sheet metal and the arrow will break or bend before the insert will fail. Top Hat sells a stainless .244 insert...

    Back tension release question

There's a guy on the ArcheryTalk forum named "Padgett". Check out his articles on shooting a hinge release, particularly the Scott Ascent, which is a dual-sear release where you can set the click sear and release sear. Same technique can apply to the new Ultraview Hinge 2 release. Also, he's...

2022 arrow/broadhead changes? Any lessons learned?

@Bump79 that's devastating all right. I was shooting QAD Exodus, fresh blades. He fell down the hill about 12 yards out of sight and started moaning. Like your bull, this one must have died within 1-2 minutes as that's when the woods went quiet again. Never taken a frontal shot, but was open...

2022 arrow/broadhead changes? Any lessons learned?

You got a pass through on a frontal? Holy heck. I took a frontal shot on this year's bull, a 4x4 rosie, and the arrow went straight through the heart and buried to the fletching. The broadhead was 4" into the stomach at that point. Specs were = 462 grain arrow going 282 fps and elk shot at just...

    What's in your Turkey Pack?

Dtrkyman nailed it. That's pretty much my pack, but I also carry a kill kit. Little ziploc with a game bag, my tag, a handmade turkey tote, and Havalon piranta. This way turkey can be hung, plucked, drawn, and cooled ASAP no matter where I'm hunting. When I say ASAP, I mean walk over to the...

    Frog gigging?

Here's another spin on the conversation. I was leaving work a few years ago and saw some colleagues fishing in the ditch beside our parking lot. Intrigued, I stopped to ask and this is what they were up to.... I ate the fried frog legs. They were absofreakinglutley fantastic.

    Expandable head elk success

Not enough energy you think? I've already got 3 1.5" cut so am content staying with them. Maybe reserve the 1.7" for deer then?

    Expandable head elk success

PS, I shoot SEVR 1.5" heads but have killed all my bulls with a QAD Exodus fixed head. Will hopefully shoot one with the SEVR this year and might even try a 1.7" cut since a my long draw length (31.5") puts my KE at like 90 ft. lbs.
