It is a sweet setup. I shot it at 500 before handing it over to the customer. It was surprisingly easy to shoot accurately at distance. With practice a light gun can kill at pretty long distance. Sure the light barrels may walk after a few shots but in typical mid to long range hunting...
This one came out under 5lb with a 25" barrel. Model 7 rem, .264 raptor (.264/300 saum imp.) #1 barrel, MPI ultra light stock. Now it wears a Swaro z3 dc and weighs 6lb 2oz. I'd like to build another similar one with a titanium model 7 action. Maybe 4 pounds with 24" barrel would be achievable...
You can do a short shank #1 and keep the weight pretty low. Same with a feather weight. A few companies will flute a #1 but the flutes won't do much more than scratch the surface.
Thanks for the input guys.
It looks like I need to find a place to try the baffin and Tibet. Maybe my next trip to Denver should need to be sooner than expected to try some on.
The country I'm talking about eats soft shoes alive. My wildland boots are about as light weight as I want to go...
Those z8s look pretty good too but are they tougher than typical tactical boots? I have worn a few "tactical" boots out way before they should have died. I would like to have a full rubber rand to fend off rocks stickers and rattlers
Hey guys I'd love some input on boots for the drier side of the mountains.
I frequently hunt dry areas in NM and AZ and sometimes it's HOT! My feet sweat a lot even in the cold. There's a lot of rock in those desert mountains so a stiff shank is preferred. Heavy pack weight happens occasionally...
My buddy and I took Yukon gear to Kodiak last fall and were mostly happy with it.
Mine did get wet inside one day but I sweat like a race horse and we were packing meat a ways in the rain. It took a day to dry it in a tent with a propane heater while raining outside which makes it almost...
I've used them a couple times in the last few years with decent results. The last was probably the best fit and finish. It was a mountain profile with micro lite carbon/Kevlar weave. It weighed 11 oz as delivered and 16oz finished. Finished weight was within a couple oz of plan. The 9 oz...
I would think a Long action Pre 64 with a sporter contour octagon barrel would be hard to keep under 6.5 lb with even the lightest of stocks.
Just throwing this out there.......the one on hand is over budget and over weight. Is it really the one you want to lay down $1500+ for? Now I'm not...
