I’m waiting on one. Check was cashed 21 Oct. called on Friday 20 Nov, and they still didn’t have my application in their system. They explained that the check is cashed in Oregon and then application sent via mail to NFA Div in the DC area. I asked if it was normal for the mail to take a...
Great work. That kid will forever remember such an awesome trip. You’ve created a lifelong outdoorsman and advocate, I would imagine, to say nothing of the quality time with your nephew.
For what it’s worth, I’ve decided hunting with family, especially the youngsters, is always a good...
Good evening.
I just returned from a backpacking trip. Nothing huge, but the longest trip/heaviest pack combo I’ve done in several years. About 22 miles in 3 days thru the Dolly Sods Wilderness. Highly recommend it if you’re in the area.
The question: how much does boot weight play into...
Just returned from a backpacking trip in Dolly Sods Wilderness. Read “I got a Monster.” It’s about dirty cops and the GTTF in Baltimore (I live near there). It was real good, I thought.
Also read some of the Federalist Papers. Also good, but the writing from that era is harder to follow...
Thanks for this. Good conversation and lots of nuance. Particularly interesting when the Fourth starts getting debated regarding law enforcement. I do think there is a balance. Personally, if the person was not shooting across the road or along the road, I wouldn’t have an issue with it...
81 Days Below Zero by Brian Murphy. Survival story of a pilot in WWII time frame who went down over interior Alaska and survived 81 days before rescue.
Thanks for the replies. I’ll give it a shot on my next trip.
For what it’s worth, yes, at some locations TSAs policy is to request your keys to open the case. And then they take them and inspect your case behind closed doors where you don’t get to observe or be present. That happened to me...
Howdy.
I’ve searched and read lots of threads about cases for airline travel. Ive seen some talk about packing clothing/soft goods in your rifle case in place of the foam. That’s specifically what I’m asking about. How do you all do it? Wrap clothes around the rifle, then pack stuff around...
Nope. In fact I have a few rifles with SFP scopes, and I’m itching to replace them with FFP. The only real issue may be if you have a reticle so fine at low power that you can’t see it against a brushy background. If you can mitigate that issue with illumination, you’re generally good.
Pelican’s Storm product line is really good. I have one for rifle and a couple sizes for pistol. The rifle is model IM3300 I believe. It’ll take two scopes rifles and a pistol or two, if you position things right. Worst part is buying new foam when you have a need to reconfigure.
18 minute pace over uneven ground is good. I’m happy with a 15 minute pace on paved ground in training, so it’s reasonable that uneven or hilly ground slow the pace to 18 mins.
I would look into a lighter rifle. In the past, when working on my fitness, I would set a goal, and once I achieved...
Some awesome answers here.
On relatively flat ground with that weight, I would be dang happy with that pace. But as some others have said, speed can lead to injury, and I would be more concerned about being able to hit it hard day after day after day. That’s part fitness and part...
I own 8x42 BX-4 and 12x50 BX-5. I was recently on a hunt where a buddy had his 12x50 BX-4, so I was able to compare both 12s side by side. Having done so, I would have bought the BX-4. The BX-5 just wasn’t significantly more impressive to justify the price difference. But... I did get my...
I’ve got a few holsters from JM Custom Kydex, and I’m unlikely to buy from anyone else, they’re that good. Not sure on their attachment options, or whether or not they can work with molle attachment. Probably worth a phone call though.
Maybe they’re reading this thread.
Out of curiosity, anyone know why the antigen test isn’t accepted? Higher error rate? I could probably ask in that crazy kung flu thread but... that thing got darn wild. And I still probably wouldn’t get the right answer. Smh.
I always like a good puffy, but I would classify them in two ways. I own a Sitka Kelvin Lite Hoody, and a Kelvin WS Hoody. The former is a good layering piece for when you’re active. It’s not as bulky as the latter and is mapped such that there is less insulation in high heat areas such as...
