Well onto day 3 and the same results as day 1/2. No elk and not much happening on public land- put on a lot of miles and not much to show. Warm weather and pressure definitely affecting the elk. Decided to catch some Brookies this afternoon. Have to love Mountian streams.
As for tomorrow we move...
Pretty good morning scout trip- found a few access points along with finding a bulging bull. Saw a smaller bull too-looking up for tomorrow with the weather shaping up nicely as well.
Made it into camp this afternoon/drove through some snow and made it to the public land we are hunting the first couple of days. Definitely a lot more grade and thick forward than expecting but looking forward to scouting tomorrow before getting the smoke stick out Saturday!

Started shooting the 420 grain no excuses yesterday; good stuff. Those things make a whole in the target.. Impressive! must say shoulder a little sore today though lol.. CVA says max is 400 grain bullets however you can do the the 420 grains. Shot them with 100 gr by volume of blackhorn 209.
We usually hunt a group of 4, splitting into 2 pairs. 1 group on one side of the ridge/drainage and the other the other side. Little easier once they are spotted and you know if 1 group shoots the general direction the heard will go. Worked good 1 time as we went 3/4 on the same heard; 3 nice ones.
I realize this is the reloading forum however looking for input on a good bullet for a remington 700 .300 win mag; for whitetails i would think the 180 grain Nosler Accubonds should be good; right? Thanks,
The hunting is the easy part if a resident or non resident.. started this thread as advice on the dos/donts of moving to certain areas of WY with the family. Don't want to move to some dog shit down if I can prevent it when a better option is right up the road. Every town/city in this country...
Thanks for the in depth information as this is the type of information/questions to discuss with the family that I am really looking for. It may be a shock but my wife is really the one who is pushing for the move more than me as she really likes being in the mountains hiking/hunting/the views...
That is our same though process, as the kids are young it will be easier for a transition. I love winter as we do a lot of outdoor activities; skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, hunting. Good with the snow and cold; wind however always sucks. Have not spent considerable time there; going to be...
