I drive to my hunting area with my truck and access the creek bed where I hunt with a sxs, it's very doable and finding a spot that's not infested with hunters can sometimes be a chore but it can be done. There are outfitters up here that rent atv's/sxs's so the option is there for those that...
Barrels a bit long for my taste but that should work just fine. I carry a S&W XDM 10mm in a shoulder holster when I don't have my rifle available, otherwise the pistol stays in camp.
I prefer the LaCrosse Alpha Burly's for moose hunting but since you're hunting near a river and I assume out of a boat you'd probably be better off with waders.
I don't know how long it would take in years but it happens for sure. The area I hunt is 4 brows and finding a 4 brow tine bull is damn near impossible, 2-3 brow tine bulls are much more common so width is basically the only way of us to tag bulls. Every now and then we come across a 4 brow...
Packing out the cape is a good way to earn back some of that money spent on the hunt, they can go for quite a bit of money if fleshed and cured correctly.
You can bet on it being a good hunt if you do your part, I've done several hunts with Larry and have always enjoyed it immensely, Larry knows his shit.
I'm headed back to moose camp on the 6th through the 15th, it's my favorite time of the year.
Anyone know how the Macomb herd is holding up this year, didn't see a ton of them last year but I was more focused on moose. Thinking about heading down on the 26-27th with a buddy.
If you're military Kowa will give you a fairly nice discount, I bought a 774 from them about a month ago and got a very good deal on a brand new 774 with stay on case. Contact them directly, I spent under $2k for my setup, can't wait to use it this fall for moose.
I've been using a Bushnell Scout 1000 for about 8 years and have zero complaints. Prior to that I owned 3 different Leica r/f's and could not get a one of them to range a dall ram.
Same here, I flip flopped on which spotter to get, the Kowa 774 or the Swaro STS and after reading a ton of info on both I decided to get the 774. Looking forward to using it this fall.
Congrats on the new spotter, I also bought a new Kowa 774 and it should be here sometime this week. Looking forward to using it this fall and comparing it my buddies Swarovski.
I just went through a similar search, needing a newer, better spotting scope and it was between the Swarovski or Kowa and after several months of researching I decided to go with the Kowa 774. I got a smoking deal on it, brand new with the scope, eye piece and stay on cover for $1975 shipped...
If weight isn't an issue take a look at the Swarovski Habicht's, a hunting guide turned me onto them back in the mid 90's and I was stunned at their performance. I've been running those same bino's (10x42) to this day and have never had them fail me in the field. I send them in every couple...
I do a lot of glassing for moose in Sept from our camp, usually anywhere from 1/2 to 2-3 miles out, sometimes even further. I need something that will help me identify a legal bull, 4 brow tines/50" or bigger or spike fork and a lot of times in low light conditions, that is where the spotter...
