'Bite & Blow' cow call opinions?

Here's my 2 cents. I have and use the hoochie mama... super simple... if you're looking for a good single reed call go with the Carlson Fight N' Cow. Most bite and blow calls don't sound like cows, they sound like calves. That is the best cow call you can buy IMO. It immitates a lead cow and...

    Vintage bear

I've been spinning up on vintage bears.. It's been a while since I've shot traditional.. Built my first recurve from a Bingham kit when I was 16.. Now have a good compound but there are times when I want to shoot traditional.. I'll be searching forums for an older bear so if anyone has a hot...

What does it cost to hunt sheep?

The cheapest way to hunt bighorn sheep IMO is to put in for the couple of units in SW MT that are essentially unlimited.. Meaning that you will draw a tag but need to bag your ram before the quota is met.. I wouldn't worry about the quota though.. The mature rams in this area are low in density...

    Stone Glacier VS Kifaru

Thanks DaveS -- I might have to take a look at your setup one of these days. I thought about just ordering some of the fastex buckles and that would solve that issue. I feel like my kifaru is freakishly light. Like I said, the way it carry's my hunting gear feels great. What I think I'll...

    Stone Glacier VS Kifaru

Todd, I haven't really put the highcamp through it's paces yet, but I have it loaded up with all of my gear and I'm not a huge fan of the lack of organization. I understand that adding zippers and pockets adds a tremendous amount of weight (and stone glacier doesn't seem to have any better...

    Stone Glacier VS Kifaru

I'm sure this thread is on the forums somewhere but I couldn't find it so here goes. I have owned a few different Kifaru's over the years and they are great packs. I have yet to try a Stone Glacier although I'd really like to. Does anyone out there have experience with both packs? I'd like...

    Opinions on Backside

I've definitely noticed the weight.. I don't consider myself an ounce counter, but it would be worth it to spend a little extra for considerable weight savings.. I really want a 0 degree bag minimum

    Opinions on Backside

I've been seeing some good looking backside sleeping bags on camofire lately ranging from -25 to 15 degrees.. Great price on them but I'm wondering if they're decent bags in terms of quality.. Does anyone have any experience here?

    Best non custom mountain rifle

Just kinda perusing this thread and thought I'd chime in.. My lightweight rifle is my Nosler TGR in 7mm Rem Mag.. I have a vortex 4-16x40 but I'm looking to swap that out for a lighter option... I'm right around 9 pounds without rounds

    District 680, Breaks sheep question

Squeekie is correct, there are now 3 or 4 units in SW MT that are unlimited. You put in and draw a tag. It works on a quota system. Those are your best oppportunities to hunt bighorn. Now, it's tough terrain. I mean really tough. Also, the population of legal rams there are low. Kurt from...

Lightweight cooking options for large groups

Thanks for the advice Larry, I thought about vacuum sealing the breakfast like that. Hoping to fool dad. My dad just retired and sold his business. He hasn't been camping in decades. We used to have a lot of fun floating in the cedar strip canoe we built. I'm trying to make it as...

Lightweight cooking options for large groups

Looks pretty much exactly like what I'm looking for Lawnboi! I appreciate everyones input here. I drew a smith river permit in central mt and I'm using it as an excuse to get some new gear. I'm trying to find gear that suits my needs on backpack style hunts as well as this floating trip...

Lightweight cooking options for large groups

I need the versatility to be able to cook eggs/bacon in a pan for breakfast and be able to cook the mountain house #10 can for dinner... I was looking at the msr wind pro II coupled with a good size pot and pan.

Lightweight cooking options for large groups

Here's the deal: I need a way to cook for around 10 people conveniently. Weight and simplicity will be key due to where we are going and our limitations.. Normally I would use a fire but I'm not leaving it to chance as far as finding firewood. I was thinking of the jetboil sumo w/ frying pan...

    KUIU Attack Pants Size Question

Man I wish I would have seen this a month ago.. I wear 33 or 34 in jeans so I went with 34 attack pants. They fit but they are really snug. So much so that I don't think I could comfortably move around in the mountains. I'm going to go with 36's.
