I just got back from Nepal. You're absolutely right about "going w/ the flow" on these hunts. It's all about the unspoken language all hunters speak. You have to be willing to shift expectations at a moment's notice. Congrats. Looked to be an incredible adventure.
Great tip I picked up a while back.
If you're going the plastic wrap w/ freezer paper exterior route. Make sure it's Saran wrap. Saran refers to the specific plastic and is air tight. Generic plastic wrap may be permeable, and you'll risk freezer burn.
That's a real example of perseverance! Especially in light of your "semi-live" posting. The highs, the desperate low, and the hard work of recovery. Congrats and thanks for telling it like it is and honoring that coveted tag.
Man,
I'm pulling for you! That connection through Yellow Knife could be tricky. Keeping my fingers crossed you get to Norman Wells and on to camp w/o too much hassle. Good luck!
Ed @ Primo is the man. Went with him the last week of August (for the same reasons you stated) and was rewarded with great weather and a great goat. Top notch operation all around. He's also set up for fishing, which was an awesome bonus. Went home with silver salmon and goat in my fish boxes.
Shockingly, at least to me, my wife's favorite game meat dinner was bear osso bucco. I have to admit it was damn good. Especially from a cut I see discarded or ground up for dog food in bear camp. I didn't bother with cutting the forearms in discs as prescribed as there's plenty of connective...
I'll second Naturally Wild in North Creek, NY. I'm a 15 minute drive from Samantha. She's great people. She sticks to her return deadline like glue with fabulous work. She spent many years in Wasilla and knows her stuff. She has a great life-size goat in her studio. She had just finished a...
The above Podcast serves as an excellent example of the risks and rewards of International hunting. Many thanks for the reminder of the importance of due diligence on all our guided hunts!
Sounds good. I got really lucky and was presented a quartering away shot. Tucked the bullet behind the near shoulder destroyed the vitals and broke the away shoulder putting the goat down where he stood.
You lucky dog!
I would recommend Crooked Tree Lodge. Did a hound hunt for bears a couple of years ago and was impressed that a few of their guides spent days (before the still hunters got dropped at their stands) scouting and keeping an eye on moose for clients. If I was lucky enough to draw...
