Skin up to the skull. Wrap the cape & skull in a heavy duty plastic garbage bag. Put the head & cape in the cooler with antlers sticking out. Put a couple of bags of ice on either side of the head & cape. Change out ice and drain cooler as necessary. You'll fine until you get home.

    Budgeting for sheep

Talking to a friend the other day in his trophy room about his sheep slam. Said the ones he has to get there was a $200k investment and he finished his 2-3 years ago. Like many of these wild beasts we chase, they require an old man's wallet and a young man's knees! 😲

    Smoked Elk Brisket

Meats like venison, elk, etc. are tough to smoke as you need temp low enough to not drive out moisture but still achieve the low cooking over and extended time. With very little marbled fat in the meat, there is a real challenge. You should consider brining the meat before smoking. It will help...

    Required Orange needed for photos?

If you have a tagged animal you are no longer hunting. Would be the equivalent of stopping you in your truck, with a tagged animal and writing you a ticket because you did not have orange on.

Coldest Temp you have camped/hunted in?

I have hunted and sat in an open deer ladder stand all day with temps from -2F to 4F. You pray that the wind is to your back and not in a open clear cut. Have worked all day is -48 F (actual air temp) As a kid in the boy scouts, we would camp out in tents overnight in 10-14 F temps.

    Committing

Not sure how long you have hunted, but when you have hunted long enough, you begin to look at it from a most effective kill approach. I have killed many. many deer with a compound bow, have also wounded a few. For me, i have learned to pass on poor opportunity shots regardless of the trophy as...
