I would get to know the farmer who is managing the land. Find out what their schedule looks like as far as harvest, next years crops etc. What they do with the farmland will have a big impact on your success. Make sure to let them know what your plans are, where your putting stands and cameras...
I use some tan colored wrangler contractor jeans and a tan/baje colored shirt. Probably 30$ in total. Like others have said, if the see you move it doesn’t matter what your wearing your busted
I run all stealth cams(25 or so) and have been really happy with them. I buy the cheaper ones (3 pack for 120$) and hope to get 2 years out of them. I would say on average they last 3 years, but have a few that are on year 6+. This is in South Dakota being run year round so they see plenty of...
I hunt similar sounding terrain in South Dakota. I agree with your assessment that those types of coulees hold lots of does and smaller bucks in the early season. From my experiences, the older bucks won’t be in these places until the rut or a major weather system forces them to. I have found...
I go with all brassicas, turnips, and sugar beets in 3 different plots that are around.5 acre each. I do that because there is plenty of ag land around so the deer have all the corn, soybeans, and sunflowers they could want to try and give them something different. Has worked great in the past...
You’ve got a month until season opens, make a day trip out west to scout. You will put yourself in a much better position when hunting season opens by seeing the land you plan on going to first
I would say that buck isn’t done growing, but hard to say how much. I definitely wouldn’t plan on him adding any new points or forks though, will just add onto what is already there.
Find the creek bottoms or alfalfa fields, that is where the whitetail will be. Most of the more established creek bottoms will have enough trees or thicker brush to set up a tree stand or ground blind. The whitetails will generally stay off the open prairie except for in the rut when they will...
I would say it depends on the area your hunting. Is there a seasonal food or water source that the antelope are using now that they likely won’t be using in September? If it is basically grasslands with a few well established watering holes they will likely be in the same general areas in July...
Like he said, if it’s only open for archery it’s doable. S.D. rifle doesn’t open til mid November, so early November is still a good chance with a bow. I’ve had great success in late October/early November on muleys. They are starting to cruise a bit but not full on rutting so still able to...
Why are you feeling out of your league?? You have already spotted this deer a few times, that puts you way ahead of anyone else that might be hunting the same area. Old mature deer are very killable, and now that you know his home area you have a huge advantage. Even if this buck is only seen...
Good plan. Unless you have high expectations you should find deer to stalk. Like someone said, don’t rush any stalks you do get. If the deer don’t get spooked they will likely be in the same areas the next day. Just like hunting anything, patience is crucial
