It’s funny the folks bringing up and or trying to convince you to step down to 10’s when the post is clearly just asking about 12’s. Never fails. With that being said I’d personally get the EL’s. They’re crazy good imo
All of them! Thankfully we don’t have to choose. Late season mallards, spring turkeys, November pheasants, grouse on a chilly fall morning up high, even a good old dove hunt all have a special place in my heart!
So the plain truth is it’s just going to take some committed practice and then after that more practice. Nothing can replace that. You don’t know what you’re doing wrong until you know what you’re doing wrong. And that takes lots of figuring it out. Best instructional is subjective but...
The bouncing hen is the last thing a beginning caller needs to worry about. And if we’re being honest is mildly important if at all when working birds. Especially on a double reed call. The other part I agree with 💯
I used to take waterfowl more serious than any other hunting I did. It was the main thing I cared to chase. Money wise I’ve spent stupid amounts of money chasing waterfowl. I’d hunt deer and as soon as it was over it was waterfowl. Sometimes deer season was a nuisance. I still love it but I’ve...
For 90% of bird hunters, no. A lot more goes into than having super shot available. For turkeys where the target is standing most of the time, sure. For wing shooting it’s mostly irresponsible for all but the very best of shooters and even then it should be considered a novelty
The Milwaukee packouts are very hard to beat as well. I’d take a variety of those over the other two options albeit the yeti and roam are very nice. The packouts might be the best built modular system out there. Problem is once you start collecting them it’s hard to stop
Don’t overlook a dewalt tough chest. Very happy with mine. Haul all sorts of stuff and have yet to have it fail in the back of the truck, even in some pretty extreme rain.
We bought one just for fun and it really does work! Best part is it weighs nothing and takes up very little space. We have some great video of that thing getting beat up
I’d definitely lean towards one with a little better meat hauling abilities. Don’t see the Stryker setup ever being an “overkill” item. More of a ready for anything
I’m guilty of overpacking. Probably the reason why I use this setup. I could only suggest getting rid of the things you really don’t need. I personally feel the backpack route is superior mainly because I mountain hunt and I plan on being there all day. Really close to mule deer hunting. If...
Sitka has the brown vest that might fit the bill. I personally have my calls in my bino harness. Used the webbing on the side of the bino harness to attach a bear spray holster for my box call and my pot call with striker fit inside behind my binos. Then I use a day pack to carry my chair and...
Possibly, but the difference is now it’s become the thing to do. So more people are doing it. I’m not going to say what’s “ethical” or not. Ethics are ultimately at the discretion of the person applying them. I’m sure people have been taking long range shots at turkeys since the first turkey...
TSS and the pattern video craze has no doubt wounded a lot of birds. There’s no doubt of the effectiveness of TSS retaining energy at distance. This thread alone is proving the point though with several posts admitting of shooting birds at beyond 40 yards. The temptation to take those shots is...
