I use Federal bore-locks (or however they are advertised). I’ve had great accuracy and many report good terminal performance.
That being said, When I’ve used up the Federals, I may switch over to Thor.
Alaska would he a bucket list hunt (caribou or Buffalo, if I was ever lucky enough to get a tag).
Oddly enough, I really want to try the PA flintlock season, if that still a thing. Just seems like a fun oddball kind of thing to try.
Similar to what people are saying above, quality (and appropriate weight) wool will generally outperform synthetic.
For what it’s worth, wool also doesn’t soak up water and hold it like cotton or synthetic. I’ve accidentally flooded my boots and with a good dump and a ring out, it was...
Decathlon has some great (and dirt cheap) backpacking gear. Online only in the US.
I’ve been using their lightweight butane cook set for years. Just as light as a big brand, but cost about $20
I use the TC presoaked patches intermittently with a bore brush. Dry patch. Then bore butter.
Breech plug gets whatever tool with TC to get it clean.
I try to always clean at the range (so long as it’s not crowded) so I don’t forget or procrastinate.
Interesting topic as there is so much tied up in why a muzzleloader season might exist in the first place. Certainly a combination of many things that could land (and has) in many interpretations. Tradition, challenge, heard health, etc. My opinion right now would draw the line at smokeless...
I think by back pressure we mean the pressure created by the firing of the primer. In modern muzzleloader the powder ignites by heat, but much of that heat is created by pressure. Basically an increase in pressure also results in a sufficient increase in temperature to ignite the powder (pv=nrt...
For what it’s worth: Last year I switched to BH209 for CO elk hunting. Triple 7 was fine, never misfired, but harder to keep clean and a touch slower.
On the range, I initially did have 2 misfires, however, I assumed they were user error and after some research, I make sure to foul the barrel...
I recently made my own pemmican for lunches (along with other snacks). Kinda weird at first; similar texture to milk chocolate, but very satisfying and no GI issues. Definitely a reason this was widely used. Calorically dense; long lasting. Still sticking with space food (dehydrated meals) for...
Sorry to be hijack everything! I’m interested in your SO Cimarron tent. I’m not allowed to post to the listing or PM, since I’m new to the forum. If you PM me an email or number, we could communicate that way. Thanks!
