.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Thanks, but my next problem is I currently don’t reload and getting ammo shipped to Ak is hard/something I haven’t done.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

My views on caliber has been changing due to this forum over the past year, and your post pushed me over the edge. Now I need to find some TMKs.

What does it take to kill a grizzly?

I also try to avoid traps like this, but I must have had too much time on my hands and poked the bear for the fun of it.

What does it take to kill a grizzly?

If he believes that a 458 is needed, or significantly better than a 3006 for hunting brown bears. My question is, why would he only bring a 9mm hand gun for self defense for him and his clients when it’s known that brown bears are in the area?

    Why I won’t buy a Tikka

Yes, on a tikka and my safety is functioning as it should. The brush has took it off safety multiple times last year and then opening the bolt is relatively easy. My guess is that the sustained pressure that is needed to cock the bolt is less likely to happen than getting a stick caught in the...

    Why I won’t buy a Tikka

It seems counterintuitive but, I’ve had the bolt get opened with the safety on more frequently than with the hammer uncocked on an empty chamber.

Hiking safely in big game country

My wife and I have both use bear spray to stop charging moose and it was very effective in both of our scenarios. In both instances the moose immediately turned after deploying the spray at about 6-7 yards. Both of the scenarios were quick point and spray and I THINK it worked quicker/more...

    Paint pens

As a cheaper alternative I buy/use arrow insert glue that has rubber mixed in with it. Attached photo are good examples of what I use instead of loctite 380. They are both a rubber toughened cyanoacrylate, and if they aren’t the same compound the differences are likely unnoticeable in use.

    Trijicon Huron 3x9x40 Drop Eval

My 3-9x40 credo dials accurately from the zero up 4.5ish mils, or at least I couldn’t tell a difference via live fire testing. I believe I read that the credo and the Huron 3-9 are the same internals as stated by Trijicon.

POI shift with different lots of ammo. What is the norm?

In my experience that seems to be a “normal” shift from lot to lot, but it varies. The solution is find one that shoots well, and then buy as much of that lot as you can.

So, you went smaller caliber, but not down to .223…

I rebarreled from a 300 WSM to a 6.5 prc this year, but I wish I went to a 6 or 5.56. So next year I’ll probably drop in caliber again, because I’ve been forced to admit that I have increased accuracy/precision from reduced recoil.

Who can cut down a fluted barrel?

If it’s a roughtec barrel you can have it threaded 5/8-24. I have a roughtec barrel that I had cut and threaded to 5/8-24 at 18 inches.

Which Bullets to use? ELD-m "Murder bullets" for everything?

The rib cage normally does expand and contract with breathing, but an animal laying on the ground won’t change the rib cage dimensions significantly more than being at a full expiration.

Which Bullets to use? ELD-m "Murder bullets" for everything?

Generally speaking ribs will hold their shape regardless of what’s happening inside or outside if they are not fractured.
