Hey all,
So I received the Cememtum lab results back on the age of my buck. Unfortunately, I may have cut off some roots of the teeth so the lab couldn’t provide an “A” rating. The “B” rating I received gave me a likely expected age range.
Guess what, he was 2-3 years old!!!
I’m going to...
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!
Big bucks are smart. But big bucks that manage to survive in high pressured area’s are a different breed.

@robby denning - I watched the video again today...still just as good, challenging terrain to hunt deer in. I have a couple questions: 1) How far was your horse camp from the core hunting area? 2) Out of the 17 days, how many hrs and/or days were spent in the “red zone” (in tight, still hunting...
Oh and it’s @Woodycat fault I didn’t hammer a cow. I tried to contact him while I was set up thinking about shooting, he never answered.
He would have pushed me over the edge. Ha

No buck, no cow, no shots fired.
Had a heck of a day though. Never did see that big buck but I was in close on deer all day. Here’s a recap video.
I should have noted in that first group of deer I did see both bigger framed deer I saw this morning. Both decent 4 pts but not the big one...
I’m 250 yards above the group of deer right now. Still can only see the smaller 4 pt and a hand full of does and small bucks. They are still bedded and on a spine. I’m going to creep another 100 yards down and wait. Hopefully that big buck is just over the ridge in the timber.
Getting video...
The wide 3x4 is back on public. He’s my plan B. Headed over now to get closer to the group of deer where I think the big one is

I have two different groups of deer spotted within a few finger ridges of where I saw that buck Friday. Both groups have bucks. I don’t think I’ve seen the big one yet but it’s hard to tell from here. Gonna keep my distance and watch for now

In position just waiting for it to get light.
“The last day is the best day”
I’ve heard this saying but I have a hard time with it. Killing big bucks is a function of time. Simple as that.
My best day is the first scouting trip of the year in June/July when you make the long hike up and...
Well I did get out today...with the fam!
Saw some deer, couple small bucks, and harvested a Boone and Crockett Christmas tree. They always look so much smaller on the mountain [emoji2].
The pics tell the story of the day...

Robby- what kind of body fat is on those deer? I know the buck I shot 2 yrs ago had none. I was shocked how lean he was and how much weight he’d lost from the rut.

Well I got nothing for a photo of the buck, just too dark and windy.
This hunt is like the Dallas Cowboys season...lots of hype, started off hot, and struggling to finish off the season. But there is still hope!
Thanks everyone for following along. I’ve really enjoyed all your posts and...
