Glock 20 for me. I was in the same spot as the original poster a few years ago. Didn’t own a pistol and needed one for bear protection on hunt. Doing my research lead me to believe the 10mm was the best choice.
I love the way it feels and shoots. Haven’t held or shot many others though.

When I started the video I was fully expecting to see a bear run full speed into a fence and blow through it like it was never there. But WOW, I don’t think a strand of wire ever got touched. When she came back at the truck was nuts. I need to practice a lot more with my Glock 20.
WI seems to be well represented out west. My first elk hunt was a relatively difficult OTC tag to get in ID. One trailhead we checked out had about 10 trucks at it. Including mine, more than half had WI plates. I couldn’t believe it!
Black Earth, not far away. I like shooting the Valley...
I was walking back to my truck and saw a doe come running. Figured a buck had to be on her tail, so I crouched down. Would have been so awesome if it was a shooter. He never had a clue he walked 5 yards from me. Just happened to be right in front of a camera. Nothing more fun than whitetail...
Lots of Tactacam votes in here. I have quite a few and personally love them. The price is right for me but does have negatives.
For me the more I can have the better. The plan is cheap and I use it 3-5 months a year. The negative is photo quality. I don’t set them where they can get long...
Southern WI, it’s a crap shoot. Some early droppers start in Dec, have seen them hold well into April. This year is one that a lot held on until late March, early April. Saw a descent one with one side yet last week. Typically bigger deer seem to drop sooner but not this year.
Just outside Madison. Carpenter by trade, figure I can’t make the money I can here or I’d move an hour or two west or north. And I find rainbow flags so beautiful that I don’t know how I’d do without seeing them everywhere I look. I guess they’ve grown on me!
How about yourself?
Why thank you sir! I feel so welcomed…I am so honored by the gold star of the day!
I’d like to thank all of wonderful folks on this site that I’ve watched so diligently over the years. You’ve all guided me in making a first post worthy of this award. I’d also like to acknowledge all the...
I went archery elk hunting in ID once. Met a local who put us on elk at a trailhead. Ran into 2 other hunters in a week and they were pleasant and complimented us for being the only other people they’d ever encountered back in this area in 10 years of hunting it. Not one negative experience...
Last hunt in MT we found a great looking area(looking at OnX). Spot was 4 miles from vehicle access . Little elevation change to get to it. Seemed like a good spot to try.
On our hike in we encountered a couple who was bowhunting elk with their Labrador retriever in tow. In 5 min of talking...
This made me laugh hard. I’m picturing guys in Kuiu head to toe climbing around in the mountains. Transparent helium balloons tied off to their packs. Heck, maybe it’s a new concept for a pack accessory. Internal helium pack to fill any dead space in the pack.
I’m a fellow FNG from WI as well. Can’t beat our proximity to the Great Lakes and the amount of big whitetails we have in our backyard. Unfortunately it is a long drive to the mountains….
I know this is an old thread. Has anyone tried the Federal Terminal Ascent 136 grain out of the Rem model 700 .270 Win mountain rifle?
If so:
-How far have you shot and results?
-Do you have another recommendation for factory load for long range shooting out of this gun specifically, say out...
Hello from Wisconsin. Lifelong whitetail and turkey hunter. Used to fish almost daily, now have family and gave most of the fishing up to pursue more hunting opportunities. Have been acquiring points in 5 states for years. Ready to start using some in the future. Have app in for MT deer now...
