We killed this buck on a drive in the middle of the day in Colorado. Two guys watching an open cut on the mountain and two of us walked slowly around the face. I heard the buck get up out of his bed and about two minutes later he walked out in front of my buddy Josh at 80 yards. Right at 200"...
drew deer combo tag, paid for the point when I applied. My buddies applied separatley as a group and did not buy the point, they did not draw. Looks like i'll be headed back alone this year.
I'd make the 4 hour drive back up to where you are used to hunting and continue to hunt that area if it was me. At least until I had a general idea of how/where to hunt the new area from a locals point of view.
I shipped two 70 pound coolers loaded with frozen meat to my hunting partners from Wyoming to Virginia and new york for 120$ each, Id say it would take between 3 and 4 of those depending on the size of your elk and how shot up it is by the time it gets to the butcher

Managed to fill my first elk tag here in Wyoming yesterday morning. My friend got his second elk and shot the biggest bull in the herd, and I got the lead cow right after his bull dropped. He had a general tag and I only had a cow tag otherwise we could have doubled on bulls. We snuck into a...

I can't remember the specifics but I had a doe tag over there 5-6 years ago and I remember an area on the east/southeast side of DeSmet that was some kind of call in access that had antelope on it. Its been long enough I cant remember what program it was or what type of land ownership it was.
Did you guys try the bigger piece of state ground about 9-10 miles south of Sheridan that is accessible from I-90? That piece generally holds some animals as long as the deer hunters havent blown everything out of the area.
