Just got home, ZERO rut, saw between 6-35 doe a day, no buck trailing... weather was unreal, 1" snow to 2" rain EVERY day! Had 3 sunny days out of nine.... saw more bears than bucks.... it was an awesome experience, but damn... it was rough.
Did have one buddy in camp get a decent goat...
Thanks for the write up! Alaska is a special place no doubt... I've been fortunate to spend a good deal of quality time up there but it seems like it's never enough...
Thanks for sharing!
I would say if its working out for you, that's awesome.... Washing most down bags will make the filling "clumpy" and the bags will lose their loft. I have ruined one on my own and had the dry cleaner wreck another for me. Some manufactures have cleaning instructions they recommend. For...
I like to just wear the undies, but on the high end bags, it it's cold enough i'll wear lite thermals just to help keep the bag cleaner from my body oils and dirt.

Yep... Exped downmat 9 is what I recommend to all my buddies, been using one for years and don't care how much it weighs... worth it.
Right now I am between the Slick and the Chilkoot...

I use my pack in the front and my puffy coat (in a bag) in the back or whatever combination of both along with my poles....
Good for you for spending that much time working with the kid... lot's of people don't and that hurts their confidence in the field.
To be honest I am tired of looking and reading reviews...
I am 6'5", 250#, like/need a lot of room, fairly lightweight and will be used for backpacking occasionally. Wanting synthetic or some type of dry-down as it will be used in AK and other wetter areas. Probably a 0*-15* bag.... Right...
