    Where to start?

Swaro, Zeiss, Lieca, that to me is Alpha glass. If that's not in the budget right now get the best you can afford. Vortex, Nikon, Maven make very good quality stuff that comes close.

    Watch Choice for Backcountry Hunting?

yep, I phone OnX position is reliable. I use the SuuntoCore as I am looking mainly for elevation and compass direction. In combination with a paper map I can navigate quickly with just the watch. If needed I can turn on OnX (or my Garmin if I am carrying it) and I can verify my position on the map.

    Where to start?

Hi Ratbeetle, welcome to Rokslide and Colorado. When do you plan to do most of your hunting, archery or rifle? IMO, Alpha quality glass in the 10x42 will serve you well and is your best bang for the buck. If you want add a spotter of Alpha quality later you can and will have it covered.

    Solo Shelter Reccos

I have been happy with my Supertarp. Has nearly as much floor space as my Sawtooth and sheds these high Co. winds without any issue, just like it's bigger brother. Trekking pole compatible, or cut a branch. I carry 6 MSR Ground hogs with it and the whole setup is just a shade over 22 oz...

Rain in Colorado? Finally getting some?

Not enough rain at all here in the SLV. We've had some rains in the past few weeks but mostly just sprinkles. Since July 1 only one good soaker. Creeks are DRY, ranchers and farmers out of water. There is a little green up high and a bit of water but not much. Most of the towns still have Stage...

    MSR Reactor sizing

I Like the 1.7 the canisters fit and although it's a bit heavier, when I need a bomb proof stove that's the one I reach for. I take a Soto and a light ti pot for solo/lightweight excursions when not expecting uber windy conditions A bigger pot is not always a hinderance. If there is 2 or more of...
