Hill people gear kit bag w/ bino pouch setup

When I’m carrying a pistol I use one with a cheap leupold bino pouch mounted on the front. I also use two molle pouches ( one on either side of the binos) It’s a little front heavy / bulky but it allows me to carry everything I need. I’m used to the feel of chest rigs from the Infantry. I’ll try...

    Grid fleece comparison

Yeah I really like my Mnt Ops. Wasn’t expecting much when I bought on sale, but was pleasantly surprised. Then again it’s a grid fleece. I don’t see that much “ performance “ difference between any expensive brand and my old ECWCS Army issued one. I also have a Kryptek one I like that they don’t...

    Eberlestock EMOD

You can fit a hydration pouch directly to the frame between the bat wings. I will sometimes use the scabbard then a hydration pouch on top of it. It’s a little snug but it frees up both bat wings. Or you can use one of the bat wings for a bladder then stuff your puffy or other extra clothes in...

    Favorite Boot?

Any good brand that fits YOUR feet best. Everyone has a favorite brand, but they are all built on different lasts and fit different. One person’s favorite pair of Crispi won’t fit the same as another’s favorite pair of Lowas. I live in TX now and it’s hard to find a place to try on mountain...

Why do we buy soft shells?

I use a soft shell vest like a Kuiu Guide or UA Infil ops with wind stopper. I’ll put it on over my mid layer or base depending on temp. Gives me a little more durability over the outside of whatever I’m wearing. Can put a puffy and hard shell over that if needed

    Inexpensive warm weather gear

Yeah I got an Academy camo hoody, basically a fishing shirt, and honestly besides having the face mask I like it just as much as my expense ass Sitka core lightweight hoody. Also the Academy synthetic pants are great for the price. The on,y thing I don’t like is the zip cargo pockets are pretty...

Vest wearers - if you only had one, what would it be?

I have a Kuiu Guide, Kryptek ( similar soft shell type), a cheap mossy oak fleece lined one ( pretty warm) and a down one from REI. My favorite one however is an Under Armour infil ops vest, the Gore Windstopper lining is what makes it better than my Kuiu or Kryptek.

The quest for the right mid weight pants

Yeah for that price and you can always return them on Amazon. hope I steered you right about the weight. The attacks are probably a little warmer and the Alios are “light”, but definitely what I would consider mid season. I tend to run hot but they are definitely heavier material than wranglers...

The quest for the right mid weight pants

The only other higher end hunting pants I own are Kuiu Attacks and Kuiu Chinook ( discontinued). They have a little more durable material than the attacks. More room in the thigh, lots of pockets, which I like, but not everyone does. They have knee pad pockets with adjustable tabs...
