battery back up are pretty small and inexpensive now. Your phone will take more than adequate pictures in most situations. The trick on a long multi day hunt is to make sure you turn the phone off completely when not using it. I would take my phone, a battery backup and a garmin in reach...

my dog rarely leaves my sid. He is always with me when I am outdoors. We are allowed to have a dog with us during big game season so he is often even with me when i am deer hunting.

i take a lot of "long weekends" those are mini vacations. But if I am on VACATION i want 10 days and some travel... hawaii, mexico, alaska ... want a good week of nothing stacked in between a couple days of travel.
