Trekking Poles for idiots....

Like most things it feels akward at first. I'd say stick with it, and they will feel better on real dirt as opposed to stairs. I didnt care for them at first but now am a big fan for most situations

Shoes for pack training

I am in love with the Salomon speedcross 5's. The regular was too skinny, so I ordered the Wide and it was perfect. Light, super good grip, good padding, not too expensive. Winner in my book

Littering in the national forest

Took a 4 mile hike (one way) up into the canyons around me following lower Sepse creek. Picked up a 12 pack of old beer cans, 2 childrens beach toys, that's about par for the course, butttt... some really egregious trash violations i also found - a dirty diaper! (this is too gross for even me...

Sitka Jacket temp ratings and sizes

Im stocking up on a couple jackets for this fall/winter and found some good deals on various Sitka jackets. Im looking for probably 2 jackets (lighter and heavier) + a rain coat. Im wondering 2 things - First, Im 6'1, 185lbs, 42" chest. This puts me at the lower end of size Large, but many...

Littering in the national forest

I pick up my own trash 100% of the time. I pick up random trash i come across as long as its not totally gross. (i.e. rotting, covered in muck, poop) The worst offenders are people who put their dog poop in a bag, then leave the bag! wtf is that? at least unbagged poop will eventually go away...
