To my eyes the ATACR is maybe slightly better but not enough to sway me either direction. There's nothing I can identify at any light (low light included) with the ATACR that I can't with the Maven.
@elkmeat I'm not Form so I won't speak for him but I have used the baby ATACR and the Maven RS1.2 fairly extensively (and skde by side) . The Maven SHR-Mil reticle is far and away (to me) better than any reticle NF offers. The Maven has better eye relief to my eyes. The ATACR wins with the...
A single scope that passes points to the potential for a good design. A single scope that fails tells us a lot more (based simply on probability and statistics). Multiple scopes of the same design that fail point to a very clear design flaw. It takes multiple to pass to point to true...
Low profile exposed elevation (preferably locking) and capped windage. And make a scope that will pass the drop test AND has a good reticle. Until you do both of those (drop test and reticIe) I won't even consider spending money with Tract.
The fact that some people willingly ignore hundreds of pages with kill pictures demonstrating the carnage of certain bullets points to a level of close mindedness that I'm not certain we will change...or Fudds gonna Fudd.
I agree that a test of one and only one scope should not be judge and jury, but a failed test should absolutely give you pause, statistically speaking. Two scopes failing I'd say most certainly begin to point to a design flaw. Two scopes passing point to the potential for a good design, but...
@philcox the MIL version of this scope is fantastic. I have an initial/early run that I put through an abbreviated version of Forms drop test and it has done well for me. I will do the same with this new version and see how it compares.
@ReddingArcher I have no inside knowledge but that last time they came in stock it seemed like it came in waves, and the gray version has not come back in yet. Keep watching the site as it wouldn't surprise me to see more in stock in the next week. Also, wait for the MILs version.
Get the Maven with Mil reticle once back in stock. The other two don't have great reticle options...the SHR-MIL reticle in the Maven is one of the better overall use reticles available currently IMHO.
