Backcountry fish and chips! Package of tuna and a small bag of Salt and Vinegar chips, crush the chips and pile the tuna on top - great combo. Homemade bars, dehydrated pineapple, and no matter what food/drinks/crocs at the truck for the roll home.
Equally curious - the South Island has insanely cool country that reminds me a lot of Montana and Wyoming. Depending on the time of year you're there you should absolutely pack a flyrod
Agreed with the above - most of the sneaks on pronghorn I've done in the last decade is prone, and I learned quickly that kneepads and leather gloves were key, as well as a watchful eye for cactus - but the vast majority of my shots were sitting and using trekking poles as a makeshift bipod...
Opening day for rifle antelope is entirely what you make of it. Stick to the roads and you’ll see what you’d imagine - people riding all over in trucks and side by sides, sometimes making ethical shots and sometimes blazing away at running bucks.
Hike a mile or two away from the roads /...
Save your points for deer for a few more years. It’ll take some time after last winter to rebuild our herd. We’ve gone from 60,000 to 11,000 in the last 30 years. Elk, however, are generally above WYGFD objectives throughout the state!

Anyone else still waiting? They claim “only a few weeks” but it’s been over 4 months and I still have not received mine back.
Contacted me through a private message that he had a scope to sell. Do not accept anything from this account of the following phone number and email: “I have one collecting dust. You can hit me up (760) 971-7373, [email protected]. Thanks.”
Wouldn’t accept PayPal G/S and wouldn’t answer the...
This winter in the Wyoming range was trending very light into January, the Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) was barely 60% of normal temperatures mild, and it looked like everything was going to get a real break. Slightly further north, the National Elk Refuge didn’t even commence feeding elk until...
That's fair, I'll probably stick with the OEM Tikka stock, it's served me well on a 300winmag and my .243 for a long time, and put that $$$ towards better optics.
@huntnfool, really enjoyed that write up as I too am contemplating my first custom build, and I have a question for you: Are carbon stocks worth the cost?
Price is a concern for me, I'm focused on building a 280ai on either a Tikka T3x Lite or Savage 110 Lightweight Storm platform, 7mm-08...
Wyoming has an over the counter tag that runs through the end of the calendar year. Our lion season in most of the state ends March 31. Check out Jake Keehn of Twin Peaks Outfitters in Auburn, WY.
I ordered the B1.2s to replace my C1's this summer. And the B1.2s are so worth it I can't even begin to describe. They've been with me to hunt sheep, elk, deer, antelope, lion and are the perfect combo of weight to size. Love that they fit in the smaller FHF M harness. The clarity is...
Hopping back into this thread now that I finally have my 4" Titanium WA suppressor (after a 9 month wait...so much for 90 days). It's mounted on a Savage Ultralight 280ai. This was my gift to myself for drawing a sheep tag last Spring.
First time out on in the mountains...and I have some...
Looking for a NIB or gently used scope in the PR-1 MOA reticle, not looking for MIL or the Impact 60MOA reticle.
Going on a sheep hunt this Fall, your help is much appreciated!
